Lovely result, there! Looks great lowered, too - I always thought it sat too high, even when I was a kid. Thanks for the shout out, too. I''ve primed Airfix kits with cheap primer for years. As long as it's acrylic, and well mixed, I've never had any problems with it. My local Poundland is always sold out of the stuff, so it can't be that bad! Nice one.

I think what it is with the air bubbles is the new primer you're using may be incompatible with the yellow spray paint. I'm working on restoring a friction car (I don't the brand. Might be Japanese because some of the replaced parts were made from the metal of a Japanese milk can). I used a spray can of store-brand gloss red spray paint then covered it with clear gloss spray paint. A good runover with a combination of 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit wet-dry sandpapers usually flattens them out and buffs it up to a good, smooth texture.

Primer wise try using Vallejo Black Mecha Primer through an airbrush; much cheaper than rattle cans and even a 60ml bottle will last for ages :and only cost around £6 :) Also do you warm as well as shake your rattle cans first before using them? I used to go with poundshop primers and got reasonable results by warming the can in hot water before spraying - but I still prefer to use an airbrush primer now :)

great result! ^^ to me the yellow looks almost like greengold, but that could be my laptop. someone emtioned the peranha capris from south africa, they had a stance similar to the original matchbox model, really. the first Supervan sat even higher! XD interesting thing with those basecoats. some simply won't work on a given surface, but well with the next...

with regards to "cheap" primers, ive always used em. Tend to find that the model making primers like vallejo and tamiya are more chemically optimised for use on plastics, so they cant really get a good grip on metals and just cause bubbles and "fuzz", or need atleast 2 coats to get a proper coverage (if you need to use more than 1 coat of primer, theres something up with it). Ive been using auto extreme grey primer from home bargains (£1.99 for a big can) for years on every model imake, whether plastic or metal and never really had any problem with it other thani had 1 can of it once that was fom a "bad batch" and came out of the can all runny and spotty (yes, i had shaken the can up and even resorted to warming it up a bit in hot water before i gaveup on it) Seems cheapo is the best all round. As for the capri, nice one, looks ace in that colour but i dont like gold all that much so ida done it with black or gunmetal hubs.

I was never a huge fan of these ones Rob. Something about the shape of the casting doesn't look right, just out of proportion. The Matchbox wheels really didn't suit it either, so the gold ones make a big difference. Like you, I love the new colour and the stance you've given it is a huge improvement. Maybe not one of the best Matchboxes, but more shiny than shabby now.👍
