@@beckydutra6543 _Dog Day Afternoon_ is the title of a major movie starring Al Pacino that came out in 1975. It was based on a real crime, and was heavily promoted. It was the first thing that I thought of.

It makes perfect sense, actually. “Always matching Brett” matters for the head-to-head, where, indeed, he picked her and had great success. But it’s irrelevant for the audience match, where he didn’t “not go with Brett” as much as he did go on his own for what he thought would be more popular with the general public.

H/H match update: ... Today's action: A new champion wins a close tie-breaker thanks to the classic Match Game answer "bra," sending our outgoing champion home with $4,050. Today's audience match question: "________ Afternoon" The celebs: Richard (It's a lazy), Brett (Dog day), and Fannie (Early) The choice: Sunday (He goes it alone!) The answers: Sunday, Good, Dog Day (Wow, Brett was the only celeb to give a suggestion that actually appeared on the board!) Well, our new champ has a shot at $1,000. I wonder who he'll choose to play the H/H with. He just said his sister told him to pick Richard, but he also said he matches Brett at home. And Brett did suggest the top audience match answer after all (a suggestion he unfortunately didn't take). Well good gravy, Marie! He picks Brett! Richard's streak is broken after 18 consecutive H/H matches. This is Brett's first attempt since 641 (when she matched). Brett only has a mild touch of the vapors this time! Maybe she's getting more accustomed to the pressure. This is her 53rd attempt after all, making her the second most-chosen celebrity for the H/H... Today's H/H question: "_______ Stamp" An easy one? I'd say postage. The most generic and common thing I can think of. Brett briefly agonizes, but begins writing fairly soon, and her answer appears to have several letters in it. She looks confident as she files her card. Ding! The contestant answers "postage" stamp as well, and receives a healthy round of applause. Brett does a Richard-style fake out, citing an LA Times article she read about food stamps, "But I wrote postage stamp anyway!" Brett scores her 21st H/H match! Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 50% (17 wins in 34 attempts). Charles - 47.7% (21 wins in 44 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 41.0% (157 wins in 383 attempts). Brett - 39.6% (21 wins in 53 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 663, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

By this point the show was really hitting its stride. It still had a feeling like it could go off the rails at any point but that just made it more interesting. Brett, Charles, Fannie and Richard worked well together and Gene kept it moving in the right direction.

I went a completely different direction with the padded bra question. Georgie is the world's greatest salesman right? Now, if he was the greatest salesman in the world I thought of Twiggy or A Man. Something flat chested right? Also, that person in the audience shouldn't have yelled out Fannie to Greg. That audience was already wound up. They were like that for the whole show. 🤔🤔

Remember the essence of salesmanship is selling something to those who need it least, such as selling ice to an eskimo. So, salesmanship means selling that padded bra to DOLLY PARTON! I'm really surprised her name didn't come up with that question.
