Drinking had nothing to do with it. He became more and more detached from MG after he became the host of Family Feud. He only stayed on MG because he was under contract. As he continued to phone in his appearances and eventually insisted on wearing sunglasses during the show, he was eventually released from the show.

Stephanie Lively Correct. The sunglasses had nothing to do with his disinterest in Match Game. If he had only worn them on Match Game and not Family Feud that would be one thing but given he wore them on both I don’t believe the stories that they were a symbol of protest.
