Wow to think Arlene started the show in 1950, she sure witness many changes during her time on the show -in style and music and many things going on in the eras

I'm amazed, and also glad, that she lived until the year 2001, and died age 93.

What the heck, Wally Bruner, the host is answering the questions for the guests! "Are you a soul singer?" Bruner: "YES!" How about letting the mystery guest answer? No one will ever replace John Daly as WML-host :/

Agreed - John Daley was a darling, and the best - he did though at times answer for/with the mystery guest if they needed a little help

I agree. Wally was out of place here. He was great as the host of Wally's Workshop.

Well, Brown's voice is QUITE recognizable...even with him trying to disguise it. And he DID answer most of the questions. Daly used to do this too. Give the guy a break, man.

How interesting that James Brown and Soupy met again. Read about the James Brown concert incident in Soupy's book.

Oh they had a mask maker on the original one too and they had to blindfold themselves too. That tongue twister was delicious! ❤ I wonder if Martin Gable made an appearance in this version too..... I haven't seen him yet ❤

This syndicated game show always was distributed by Viacom, which always was a division of CBS. In July 1968, Viacom paid to videorecord the first "What's My Line?" syndicated episodes. They spent an entire day creating five episodes so one could be telecast on each weekday in a given American city. That was July. James Brown visited the Ed Sullivan Theater (a theater used for television not theater) three months later: October 1968. Viewers in many cities saw this in late '68 & '69.

Oh Soupy. Oh Phyllis. Most irritating laughing fits on WML since that incident when Dorothy and Shelley Berman got the hysterics during that game involving President Kennedy's rocking chair maker.
@kenhenderson799911 жыл бұрын
That is correct. That's why this was taped in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

the production staff must have been out of their minds to book the fire-wielding hair stylist. Fates reported in his book that the production staff also booked a fire demonstrator on wheels who managed to accidentally set himself alight during the demonstration. That mistake did not get past the editing room.

For the first round, they should have done it one question at a time in turn moving clockwise.
@RonGerstein4 ай бұрын
Only the MG requires one question at a time. There have been numerous occasions when the panelists wore blindfolded for many reasons, like contestant's name or how they look.
@kylebastian98094 ай бұрын
@@RonGerstein But it would have been a challenge if they did one question at a time for the blindfolds maker.

This is the period when James gave up his famous "conk" (his term) for black pride. He started straightening his hair again in the mid-1970's.

Phyllis Newman should have been the replacement for Kilgallen. She's the best hands down. What's with this use of fire when cutting hair. NYC consumer affairs MUST have shut this nonsense down pronto after this aired, no???? Unbelievably dangerous and stunt-like. I see Mole died in the early 70's, not long after, but the shop still exists.

1) Dorothy is dead 2) Bennett works during the day when the syndicated episodes are recorded. The original WML was broadcasted LIVE on Sunday night at 10:30 PM, so Bennett was available. 3) Fred Allen is dead 4) Steve Allen hosts his own show(s).

I like how white audiences started sweatin JB after King's passing when he stopped riots, told black people to not riot, steal etc. They were scared to death. Then "black and proud" came out then they abandoned him then came back again then abandoned him again when he was in prison then liked him again after he got out ha.
