It's actually a simple tutorial, the complexity of it comes from the exhaustive explanations of the why's and the games contract requests. These are what sets Mike apart from many others. Great video again, sir.

I love hear the "why" and "how" of the game mechanics - instead of just someone saying, "click here and do this" like so many tutorials. This is fantastic and I'm learning stuff!

I'm playing KSP for the first time in a decade and let me tell you finding out about communication blackout for my Munar probe was a lot of fun. I did actually manage to make my orbit because i had lined up to the maneuver node in advance, but the 0.8 second burn i was going to feather into turned into me frantically trying to figure out why I couldnt control the ship at all and finally just pushing full throttle right at burn time. it was only afterward that i found the indicator in the UI and understood what had happened. suffice to say I had to correct the orbit later.

When doing normal and anti normal burns it's more effective at apoapis saving you ∆ v when you are going the slowest so in your case here u might have wanted to wait until you have done your your burn to get into orbit then waited to do a "normal" burn at apoapis this is all to save ∆ v so it's useful if you have fuel constraints

I know this video is older but a tip when burning at maneuver nodes take ur burn time and divide by 2. Then take the number you get and start burning at that time in seconds for your burn so if you have to burn for 30 seconds divide by 2 that's 15 burn at T- 15 seconds. If I'm correct this makes your burns a more efficient and accurate
@MikeAben
@MikeAben 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, but if you turn on the Burn Time indicator in the settings, the game will set it up the time for you.

@@MikeAben Ok it's just from what I have heard you have to do it manually and that the game didn't do that but maybe that was for an older version. Thanks for the response though love your videos very informative and easy to follow.

In real life CAN you actually do a burn like that, no criticism just wondering. If so, would it be the most efficient?

How do i match inclination of orbits if my and the target (from contract) orbit don't touch and therefore there is no AN/DN visible? I can't set an orbit as a target.
@MikeAben
@MikeAben Жыл бұрын
Is the orbit about a different body? To see the target orbit, the view must be focused on that body.
@mih1959
@mih1959 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeAben It was around Minmus, but both orbits did not touch when arriving and so there was no AN/DN and i did not know how to match the inclination as we usually do when those 2 nodes are there. So i just eyeballed and did a gazillion correction burns which is hopefully NOT the way ;-)

So sorry, but I have watched the whole playlist and the amount of times you get the numbers wrong is sooo frustrating. Love the videos, but damnit, when you say @ timestamp 5:37, 158.8 for 858.8 and also 428 for 498. In all your videos you just say the wrong numbers so often. But all the high level stuff is spot on. Dude.... please just say the numbers on the screen! Love the content btw.

Yeah, ain't gonna happen. I've been like that my whole life. My students got used to it. Edited to add: Just to show how deep this goes, in front of a class I would write one number on the board, while saying a different one.

20 years from now a SpaceX rocket is heading to Mars and a stewardess comes back into the passenger cabin explaining that the captain ate something that disagreed with him. "Does anyone here have any experience in achieving a Mars orbit?". Mike raises his hand, "no problem I got this!".
