They prefer to hire you as clinical assistant after QE1 and NAC in Ontario on minimum wages. In other provinces, there is a licensed clinical assistant role that pays really well and helps tremendously in matching.

Yes, the more recent you are, the better. I went to Pakistan to get recency in both 2020 and 2021. And I matched in 2022.

Gain more health care experience in Canada, get recency of practice from your home country, add more educational activities/ courses/ CMEs, volunteer experience in Canada, teaching experience, get research experience/ publications. Yes, IMGs are all doctors who graduated/ did their MBBS from any country other than Canada. Of course, you can, but as I said it takes more hard work/ determination to get residency in Canada compared to other countries.

Would you be willing to share if you had interviews during your first attempt to match, and if so how many interviews? Also, you mentioned you learned from your first attempt, what lessons did you take away from the your first attempt that better equipped you for your second attempt?

I was invited for FM interview Ontario, only one interview both the times I applied. But hey, you only need 1 interview to match!

Thank you for your video! I am a UK medical student interested in Ophthalmology. If I were to complete my training in the UK (an approved jurisdiction according to the RCSPC) and passed the MCCQE Part 1, how difficult would it be for myself to find a job as an Ophthalmologist in Canada? Also, in order to apply for Ophthalmology residency as an IMG in Canada you need PR. Could you please make a video going into detail about this process? If I apply for PR and decide to pursue residency in Canada, would I need to live in Canada or can I stay in the UK and wait until I match to move?

Doing residency in Ophthalmology in UK will definitely help you a lot in entering the practice ready path, where you don't have to do residency all over. Please search PRA ophthalmology in different provinces and the PER program for ophthalmology in Canada. Requirements and criteria keep changing.

I did them in Ontario, they were not lisenced positions. You do not need PG training for these jobs. I did them after QE1 and NAC exams.

I left Canada after 9 months of being there realizing how impossible it is . Are you sure only mbbs doctor with 3 years of experience can get matched. I do have excellent communication skills and i can study my ass off but carms is all about matching Matching more qualified doctors more credentials the more the chances are to be matched .

Hi Dr Naz, you need to pass MCC QE1 exam and NAC OSCE. And be recent in your practice. Check MCC website, PRA Programs for IMGs in different provinces as well as PER for IMGs to see if u meet those criteria or can try to meet before you immigrate.
