Great stuff! I bet you get a tremendous sense of satisfaction and wellbeing from not only fixing but *improving* these kinds of things. Human'est thing of being human: a man who can use his hard earned knowledge and experience to leave something better than it was when he found it.

I had a Matchless Hot Box years ago. Was noisey like this so I sold it. Now I know why!

You have 4 huge antennas...Thanks for sharing.

Just did some tests with new Mogami cables while I await the new 3PDT switch. The new wires won't be antennae.

Looks like a standard donut shaped E I field from the transformer . Should have been to the end away from the active parts. that bridge is not very quiet 30amp 1000v . I think some UF1007s or HER1008s are far quieter less hiss and rf produced . That cable is not up to doing the job needed. Nice video.

Yep the tricky noise gremlin’s, could you shield the transformer with something? Say with a M-80 perhaps just for fun.

Man tracking down noise sources like this sure seems like a big headache. Especially when you end up having to rewire most of it.

I dont know why anyone constructs these clamshell designs with the circuitry divided into each half with flying leads. It is always asking for trouble because of long leads and all the stress on the solder joints every time it is opened. It is most definitely done for cosmetic reasons. It sure is shiny though. - Note: I have learned this the hard way from personal experiance - firstly through my own designs. Later, In designing test gear for companies, I have made recomendations to not do this and been ignored until the gear is nearly finished when (on multiple occasions) I have been told by the (previous) objectors "We shouldn't have made this like this". So through experiance, we live and learn.

I saw a band using one once about 20 years ago. It sounded great then, but boy Matchless sure seem like clunkers now.
