Good on Dan Suh for having a go. Easy to criticise him but he’s had a great experience here. Good luck to him. Anyone can dig someone out from behind a keyboard, but he’s put his ego to one side and done something he will always remember.

Ronnie and Steve did such a good job playing pool in the early 2000’s in the Mosconi cup. I always thought any pro snooker player could hold their own against a pro pool player. just my 2 cents: i think Dan didn't expect the balls to squirt extra on the new cloth, (actually both players didnt but Jack was able to adjust), like when you are so used to putting side spin on each shot on a regular cloth for a new cloth the squirt would make you miss on the thick side every time and thats exactly what happened. I only learnt this becos that happened to me when the pool hall I used to go to changed new cloths and i missed all my shots that night but 2 weeks later it became normal again. Like when the cloth is a bit worn out it would have more friction and hence preventing it from squirting too much
@ktosdad

He followed up BOTH insanely beautiful kicks with easy misses (the crazy great kick on the 7, followed by the straightforward 8 miss, then the crazy great kick on the 6 followed by the easy 7 miss) 😣😝 Jack Shooting too fast, both guys missing straightforward 9-balls, not knowing the rules, Dan going for insane dumb long cuts when easy safeties are the only option, Dan missing ball in hand on a straight in one-ball?!?! Only once in professional pool have I only seen that done before.. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Just wow - thanks for the laughs today Matchroom!! I’m gonna enter the next UK 9-ball Open!! 😅👍

It was very apparent to me that Jack struggled with the cut-induced throw of pool balls. Just about every routine cut shot he missed (and even some of his makes) was on the full side. Pool balls are heavier than Snooker balls, so the cue ball will throw the object ball more offline. And of course, there are points on the pockets (instead of rounded edges on Snooker tables), which he hit a couple of times. I have no doubts he aimed just as he would in Snooker, but simply didn't understand the physics of pool and how the pockets are different. A little unfortunate because I'm sure there will be some pool fans on here saying he sucks, when in fact he's one of the best shot makers in the world for any cue sport. Hopefully, it also shows Snooker-only fans that pool is not the same game and you can't just come onto a pool table and expect to be great.

Normally the 4ball is purple and the 5 ball is orange. Understandable how come Jack played position for the purple after the red 3. Of course it was the wrong ball per Matchroom. You can’t just enter a pool tournament with zero practice, not play with your own cue, and expect to do anything. Jack, and every other professional snooker player, have all the physical tools necessary to play pool at a high level (not the highest level, but very good), but you have to give yourself time to acclimate. I can’t, for the life of me, understand why these snooker players aren’t at least using their snooker cues. They’re already intimately familiar with them, and you’re not going to find a pool cue with less squirt than a snooker cue.

Exactly. I don't understand why they at least wouldn't use a Chinese 8 ball cue (snooker cue with a larger tip). Traditional pool cues feel and play very differently compared to snooker cues.

Easy to say this match was a 'car crash' or 'unconventional'. I didnt here any ideas from the comms about what should be the right shot or play. Quite frustrating to listen to.

You may not understand how bad the level was. I do not mean it to be offensive to Jack or Dan but this is below the level of bad amateurs. It would be hard to comment and not make jokes.

Scrappy match. I don't know if it was nerves, the speed of the table, something else but it seemed that Dan Suh was not playing up to standard at the start. Maybe too much banter at the beginning! Also in the first rack, it was decent that Dan declared his no-rail foul, but he didn't have to (this is a competition), and Dan was probably kicking himself considering the score after the first 8 frames.

@@nakkadu u can use snooker cue for billiard when ur just playing for fun since it still possible to use, but it'ill be illegal for billiard/pool tournament cz there are some specifications for the cue sticks like the weight and tip size to use and requirements based on other billiard equipments. ig it also not really suitable and will affect the gameplay but it still worth to try with.

The commentary is more cringey than the play - snooker is like a fine-art masterpiece where 9-ball is like a child's scrawl which you put on the fridge anyway, to make the kid feel better. Why wouldn't a player go for planting the 9 at any opportunity - 9ball already turned off the need to think, why not put a challenge in there?
