Im building on my sr500, keep telling myself “sell it, get something new” but dammit, something about the bike… its like it has a soul and i just cant. Love it too much. Truly a bike you have to ride it to understand it.

These bikes are badass.. and aren’t as common as so many other models.

@@MatchstickMoto its a head turner too. Other motorcyclists and even harley riders like to walk around my bike and check it out when i park at meets, usually they ask me if its comfortable (im 23 years at 6ft) and i tell them the story of how i got the bike. Never kick started anything in my life, but i knew i wanted it, rode 3 hours to ohio to get it, and rode 3 hours back on the bike. Yeah its comfy to me lol.

I still have my 80 sr500. Plan to revive it in a year or so. Yea, the looks, sound and just the pure joy cannot be replaced. Had a tt500 that was later stolen from me. Loved it to death. I have had many bikes in my life and loved them all. But I kept the sr.

Got my 78 about nine years ago it had 64,000 kilometres when I got it and I've done another 80,000 on top of that Got it stripped right apart at the moment "upgrading" from a second oversize Wisco 10 to 1 to a fourth oversize Wiseco 10 to 1 piston, new case bearings and stainless steel case screws and a few gearbox parts new valves and one new valve guide, new cam cam chain and cam chain sprockets, new drive chain and sprockets new hydraulic brake lines, caliper seals and rear master cylinder seals a replacement caliper mounting bracket and a ton of other things like replacing the replacement aftermarket tapered steering bearing with new original races and balls (the tapered bearing sit higher than the originals and are too tall) new front wheel bearings and a new plastic ducktail for the seat ... I had to remove the front forks to replace the steering bearing and I had to dropped the swingarm out to replace the plastic ring that runs around the front of the swingarm for the chain to roll over, so I thought while I'm at it I may as well repaint the frame again Done just about everything to it to keep it running over the years like a VM 36 millimetre Mikuni carburettor and new manifold, magneto rebuild replaced the CDI unit had the speedometer and tachometer rebuilds and fitted new cables, new clutch plates and a couple of clutch cables swingarm bearings rear wheel bearings new rear disc brake rotor rear shock absorbers new replacement front fork tubes and seals tapered steering bearing drive chains and sprockets and to many other small things too mention

Where did you Get the rear caliper/disc from? Sick bike! Building a sr500 myself!
@MatchstickMoto2 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, it was from eBay (I know, it can always be hit or Miss), but it was very high quality and worked perfectly. Search xt500/sr500 parts and you should find it.
