Put a return on the carburetor, no return will always give excess gasoline to the engine because the float of the carburetor cannot take the pressure, it will be very good

Please keep this old straight 6 in this truck. It's been with it for 70 years, don't change it now! A new engine might have more power, but this engine has more character! Leave the engine swaps for the modern trucks and keep this one stock.

@@joebond2099 grinds...because the input shaft is not matching the speed of the gear you are trying to select. Which is why you clutch in and clutch out between neutral and gear selection, allowing the input shaft and the gear to synchronise speeds with one another.

Keep up the work guys. Your going to run into issues and that's what makes this stuff fun and what to watch for next time on a barn find. Take notes of it's age, how long it has been sitting, why was it parked, what was wrong with it when it was parked. The list goes on and on. Also something I do that I think that everyone should be before buying a old car or truck at this age, what was that particular make, year, and model pros and cons known for. I love the project and I hope for more. You guys are keeping me busy while I'm at work. So don't stop the updates! 🤙🤙

now you have learned why old people always carried a small piece of wire in the vehicle. You have heard the saying of the old vehicles were held together with bailing wire and tape. Now you see what they were talking about. old fashioned lessons are sometimes the funniest as you look back on them. If you do not have the coil bracket properly tightened you will not have a good ground on the coil. I am glad that you are having some fun learning some of the things that used to cause problems with the old vehicles. Keep learning and smiling.

When starting to rebuild or restore old vehicles there is a certain steps to see if the engine will turn over, have spark, and with a carb setting that long needs to be disassembled and through cleaning is a must. Sounds like your into diesels! But your on the right patch now as your realizing the carb needs cleaning. Also your in for a real treat when you finally get it going. Enjoy the adventure

Been there in the same situation with old Mopars. Having to figure things out in the middle of nowhere can be stressful. Learning and fixing the fun part, and very rewarding. Breaking down in traffic? Or in the middle of nowhere, is not! LOL. Keep at it. You'll get it all sorted and made reliable. Fuel systems on these old vehicles can be challenging. Heat soak, after parking or vapor lock due to ethanol in today's fuels can be a pain in the azz. An electric fuel pump, and a phenolic spacer at the carb base can be effective.

Maybe the coil overheated and needs a resistor , the piont gap is the dwell, the timing is set on the crankshaft pully after you ajust the dwell by turning the distribator in the block. Adjust the carburator air mixture by conecting a vacum gauge on the inlet side and ajust to highest steady vacum reading.

that carb is a carter ball and ball, I have the same setup on my 1950 dodge. There are 2 small check balls and they get stuck from gas deposits. make sure you get them out and clean them as good as you can. Thats your biggest issue. There is a retaining ring under the plunger that holds the balls in. note that they are 2 different sizes and need to go back in the same place they came from. When evarything is cleaned up good on that carb it will actually run pretty good. My engine purrs like a kitten and honestly has pretty good power for what it is. Also you want lead substitute in that gas. Those did not run on unleaded fuel back then and the lead protects the valves from damage

If running points and on 12 volts, either the coil needs a built in resistor, or there needs to be a ballast resistor in the power line to the coil. If not the coil can over heat and stop working til it cools off some, and you will burn the points up sooner than if there is a resistor. Sometimes the condenser for the points can short when hot and kill the spark.
