Material Culture | How Reenactor's Uniforms are Made

His Majesty's Tenth Regiment of Foot in America is a historically re-created infantry unit formed to portray the service of the British Army during the American War for Independence.
Composed of three types of soldier, Grenadiers-typically larger men who are used as shock troops, a company of Light infantry, generally smaller, more agile men--capable of maneuvering in the dense wilderness to skirmish or flank the enemy, and a battalion company--a company of regular soldiers, capable of mass volleys and were the heart of the army and are trained in both Grenadier and Light Infantry tactics. We also have a company of Music, who provide music and commands to the army. Last but certainly not least, a Corps of Civilian Volunteers--who provide food to the regiment during encampments and accurately portray civilian and camp life of the 18th century. Each is open for recruitment. The members of the Tenth are accurately uniformed, equipped, and trained in 18th-century military drill and life so that we appear in public as members of the British Army would have in 1775. where should somone get some outfits or uniforms

Thank you for posting! Question: I do various historic walks and hikes (Civil War mostly) and sometimes try to do them (or at least part of them) in historically accurate footwear. Thinking about retracing the British march back to Boston from Somerville during the Powder Alarm of 1774. Any suggestions as to where I might find a pair of shoes appropriate for a British regular in 1774 or do I have to start practicing my shoemaking and cobbling skills? Thank you for your help!

We admire your hobby! There are definitely some great authentic cobblers out there! To name a few: S. Pekar, Shoe and Accoutrement Maker, Fugawee, South Union Mills, Gossville, Godwin, Land, SUM, Kevin Garlick. Hope this helps and that you enjoyed the video!

Excellent info! Thank you! At some point might have to try the full Lechmere Point to Concord to Charlestown march but the 35+ miles is daunting even in Nikes or Merrells. What an epic march! @@HM10thFoot

@@oxbowbender Glad we could help! Member of the 10th on numerous occasions in the past few years have done the match from Lechmere to Lexington on Patriots day prior to the reenactment. In the past some have even done the full match to Concord after! So it is definitely possible!
