Hello, very nicely presented explanations..i have one point though, during bcc slip plane explanations the way you have placed x', y', z' are wrong..either z' is to be reversed or x' and y' are to be switched..

Quick question: At 8:00 mins, if the bonds are stronger and closely packed, doesn't that make it harder to break the bonds and easier to re-form rather than easy to break and easy to re-form?
@zzztttsss
@zzztttsss 7 жыл бұрын
It makes it harder to break the bonds yes but that should only inform how you're conceptualizing activation energy not dislocation motion.

Very well explained, thank you! I'm not sure why there isn't a slip plane that is (-1 -1 -1) or (-1 1 -1) etc, does anyone know? :)

These additional planes in the {111} family of planes can be slip planes if there is some component of resolved shear stress that will move that particular plane. You must look at the direction that the planes would slip and the direction of the applied stress and how these are oriented with respect to the plane that you are considering as a potential slip plane.

@@tanyafaltens5967 but why aren't they counted with the other slip planes?? she says in the video that there are 4 planes !!!
@tanyafaltens5967
@tanyafaltens5967 5 жыл бұрын
@@marwanadel__ You need to look at the complete slip system - specific sets of planes that are associated with a direction of applied stress. (111) is the same as (-1-1-1) , you will see if you draw out the planes. If the plane is perpendicular to or parallel to the direction of applied stress, then it is not a part of the slip system. You need to have a component of resolved shear stress in the plane.
