Been playing guitar on and off my whole life, mostly off, and even though I don't know any music/guitar theory at all I was able to learn this entire piece thanks to your breakdown. I never ever thought I'd be able to play a Mateus-freaken-Asato song. Thank you so much!

When I heard this song, thought , "I should learn that" then yesterday I saw you did a video of it. Awesome. Now this, so yes, It m learning it today. Thank you Daryll. And I love how you give your thought process, "and maybe the artists thoughts" as you go. It's an incredible process to help people understand transcribing and learning how chord shapes can help you find your way. Incredible.

Love your teaching style man! Thanks for taking the time out to run through the theory as well. Much appreciated! Also, that is a beautiful guitar. What's the story behind the signatures and doodles on it?

The story is that famous guitar players came to my hometown, played a show, I partied with a couple of ‘em, and they scribbled on my guitar 😋

@easemydivinity73932 жыл бұрын
how can e be the tonic if the key is g# u also mention once that it's the 6th chord ( u say E is tonal center several times) great lesson but that got me kinda confused :D
@DarrylSyms2 жыл бұрын
I don’t remember what I said here but it’s possible that I said the 6 has “tonic function” - as in, two of its three notes also exist in the root chord (the real tonic) 😎 👌 It would appear that I’m simplifying terms to accommodate for the mass of beginner/intermediate folks. But yes technically the VI would be of submediant function. I’m actually creating an entire Masterclass about harmony which will be available soon on Fretwise - maybe you’ll enjoy that 😎

Asato for me always sounds like the same thing, if you play your songs together in a playlist you will never know when one starts and the other ends.
@DarrylSyms5 жыл бұрын
I understand why one might think this with some of his stuff, particularly his music that has a lot of chord modulation, but that’s his Jazz side 💁♂️ I think there are golden ideas in a lot of his music, even if it’s just a few seconds worth that we can implement into our own playing 🙂
