Michelle, I teach 8th grade Physical Science. The reason your glass jar broke is that you were not using tempered glassware, like Pyrex. Meaning it doesn’t have the same ability to expand at the temperature you were using. That is why it broke:) You asked if anyone knew the reason so I thought I would share. Love your videos! Hope you make your viewer goal!
@daisycastellanos66276 жыл бұрын
But she used a mason jar. Mason jars are used for canning. Shouldn't the mason jar withstand hot temperature ?
@amyfentress16 жыл бұрын
Hi Daisy, that is a great question and I can see how that could be confusing. The best answer that I can give is that tempered glass can handle higher temperatures and has a better ability to expand without breaking than a mason jar which has glass that is not made for quick high temps such as a hotplate. Uneven heating of non-tempered glassware can stress the glass and cause it to crack/break/explode. Most of the time when you are canning something, the temperature is not as hot and as unevenly distributed around the jar as it is when you set it down on a hot plate. Also, from what I know about canning, you usually heat the glassware up slowly in a water bath, then take them out and fill them with whatever you are canning, while they are still hot, and then put them into the canner so that the glassware never goes from one extreme of temperature to another. I hope this info. is somewhat helpful. Thanks
@clareadelaide70376 жыл бұрын
I was thinking Daisy that the mason jar wasn't an actual mason jar. You can buy knockoffs at the dollar store and those can't be used for canning.

for the apron that was knotted too tightly: if you twist one of the knot's ends many times, it will become stiff enough to push back through the knot and untie this way. This trick also works very well for plastic bags, fyi. Hope that helps!

I have an eyebrow tip for you! Not saying this to be offensive at all...I just know you’re new to makeup. After you lightly fill in your brows with your brow pencil or powder, run an old (clean) mascara wand, or brush to blend your eyebrows out so they aren’t as dark or have such harsh lines. 🙃 Elf has a great mascara wand brush for $1!

It's my first year teaching fourth grade math, too. I have been following our district's curriculum and have also felt the lack of creativity that comes with that. Since it's my first year, I have pretty much stuck to what it has planned, but I don't feel like I'm excited or my students. I'm excited to change things up a bit next year, but I think I will try something similar to your baking transformation next week. Thank you so much for being such an inspiration! If you ever have the time (ha) and you create any fourth grade math tasks like this, I know I would purchase them from your TPT so there are bound to be even more people.

@jacalynmueller84396 жыл бұрын
Couple of things... 1. Love that you use the PVC pipe. Can't wait to see how you get creative with decorating it! 2. Stay strong getting all your grading done! We are currently on spring break and I am not leaving until Tuesday. My plan is to get everything graded and setup for the week we come back so I can enjoy my break. 3. Try Zenni Optical. My insurance only pays for one set of glasses or one set of contacts. I use it for my contacts and then I buy three to four pairs of glasses off of Zenni Optical. You can get them for 6 to 7 dollars each. I then keep a pair in my school bag, at home, in my car and at school. Just in case something goes wrong with my contacts. Just a suggestion from one teacher to another. 4. I have been teaching middle school math for about 15 or 16 years. I love the fact that you change your differentiated groups on a daily to weekly basis. I teach 3 different learning groups and they are super flexible as well. Just because a student understands one concept doesn't mean they won't struggle with a different one. I think it is so important that we recognize that in each student and meet them where they are at so that they can be successful!

+Pocketful of Primary Ms. Michelle Ferre , Your Classroom Transformation day shows your dedication to not just demonstrative teaching but also proving a point to everyone that education in the classroom can be enjoyable for the students and the teachers and not feeling like being in a prison room all day and those teachers who always stick to the structure are probably the ones having to deal with disengaged students who see the end of the year in sight and mentally counting down to that last day of school and that first day of summer when they don't have to deal with anymore homework , etc . but also knowing that they will be missing their friends as well and in my eyes what you are doing is for the days left of this school year that you have left with your students these kinds of things that you do with your students destroys that dilemma for them and they are not thinking about how they can't wait until the end of school so much . Keep it up beautiful . - Dwight
