technically, he spoke about the compositions of integers. partitions do not give importance to order. 4 has 5 partitions (1+1+1+1, 1+1+2, 1+3, 2+2, 4) but 8 compositions (as described in the video). generally speaking, the number of compositions of an integer n is 2^{n-1}, but partitions are lot harder to count. but partitions do become more relevant when you consider building korvais and other rhythmic compositions.
