Just to clarify the number of counters on Prime Speaker and the number of cards drawn at around 37:00 The Ability on the Great Henge is a Trigger NOT a replacing effect that changes the numbers AS the creature enters. Therefore Prime Speaker will enter as follows: 8 +1/+1 Counters (greatest power) -> Hardened Scales makes it 9 +1/+1 Counters -> branching Evolution (x2) and Primal Vigor (x2) each double = 36 +1/+1 Counter. When she enters the Henge will trigger as well as Prime Speaker herself. You can choose the order. When you resolve Henge first: - Henge will put 1 -> 2 -> 4 -> 8 +1/+1 counters onto Prime Speaker and draws A card -> Leaving Primespeaker with 44 +1/+1 Counters - Prime Speakers trigger will HAVE you to draw cards equal to her power which will be 45 (1/1 Base Power/toughness) -> Ending with a 45/45 Prime Speaker and 46 Cards drawn When you resolve Prime Speaker first: - Prime Speaker has 36 +1/+1 counters and you draw 37 cards. - then the Henge will put 1 -> 2 -> 4 -> 8 +1/+1 counters on Prime Speaker and draw you one more card -> Ending with a 45/45 Prime Speaker and 38 Cards drawn I hope this helps! :) In the End this did not matter that much. It would matter though if there were 37 or more cards and less then 46 cards left.

I think the counters wouldn’t be doubled on the squire because it’s a trigger on combat damage, if I’m not mistaken state based action says he’s dead before trigger resolves so primal vigor would be gone when trigger resolves. It probably doesn’t matter but I’m curious on the ruling on if that’s correct or not
@Dynme4 ай бұрын
That's my understanding as well: Small Ant would have died and all his stuff left the game before the counters were put on the Squire, but a crackback for 98 would still have been lethal so w/e.

Didn't change the outcome at all, but Selfless Squire should have been 99/99. All damage is dealt simultaneously, Smant goes to 0 and Selfless Squire prevents 98 damage. Smant dies and then Selfless Squire's trigger goes on the stack. Once it resolves, then it would get 98 counters

Just a heads up, the math behind the Prime Speaker Zegana + The Great Henge interaction was actually not correct but you still somehow pulled out the correct answer. PSZ's ability that puts +1/+1 counters on itself is a replacement effect (it enters with those counters, there is no time where it doesn't have those counters). The Great Henge's ability is a triggered ability (uses the stack, etc.) and therefore is a separate instance of putting +1/+1 counters on PSZ, and for each of those events SmallAnt can determine the order he applies his counter-modifying replacement effects. PSZ's card drawing ability is also a triggered ability and triggers at the same time as TGH, thus can be put on the stack in either order so SmallAnt could choose whether he wanted to include the extra power or not. Prime Speaker Zegana's ability would originally have it enter with 8 +1/+1 counters. Depending on the order that is modified in, that can go up to 36 counters (Hardened Scales +1, x2 x2) or as little as 33 counters (8 x2 x2 +1). After that when The Great Henge's trigger resolves, the original event is adding one +1/+1 counter. That can be modified to add between 5 and 8 counters, so Prime Speaker Zegana could have entered with at most 44 +1/+1 counters or at least 38 +1/+1 counters. > 603.1. Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as “[When/Whenever/At] [trigger condition or event], [effect]. [Instructions (if any).]” > 614.1c Effects that read “[This permanent] enters the battlefield with . . . ,” “As [this permanent] enters the battlefield . . . ,” or “[This permanent] enters the battlefield as . . . “ are replacement effects.

Anyone else catch at 31:00 that the one Nazgul got an extra 3 +1/+1? Put 3 on, realized it was supposed to be 6, had already added 3, still added 6 more.
@SuperTheNobody4 ай бұрын
not that it matters, but I believe the counters on selfless squire would not have doubled during damage the trigger goes on the stack, then smant loses due to state based effects, then the trigger resolves, the replacement effect is no longer there to replace the action of placing 98 counters with 196 counters
@channelchanger28394 ай бұрын
Love to see Smant playing magic! Though he does seem out of place when not on his green screen
@Eagle93A7X4 ай бұрын
36:05 how bout that math: Zegana and Great Henge dont put counters on at the same time, first Zeganas effect which gets modified by the enchantments and then via the Great Henge ETB trigger (which couldve also been resolved after drawing the cards from Zeganas ETB in case he was actually about to deck himself; Zegana comes in with 8 which becomes 9 by Hardened Scales and then 18 to 36; afterwards, Great Henge puts one on her which becomes two which becomes 4 and 8 afterwards; 36+8=44 + 1 from her base power +1 from the the Great Henge trigger itself =46; couldve been 38 if he wanted to :)
