Same ol story. Everybody hates being independent until you gotta put your own bread up though. It takes ALOT of money to do it on your own even if not in the beginning eventually to scale and build larger momentum it does. You don't get what you deserve you get what you negotiate. Its the same story of artists complaining. It's really how you hustle. He has a good manager and def some savy over time but artists need to take 10 min a day to study the business as much as create. The industry isn't and never has been designed for everyone to win only a select few. It's highly political and revolves around alot of luck and timing. There's millionares who are independent (Larry June, Techn9ne ) etc they just figured out how to get funding outside of a label. It's literally like venture capital / being your own startup. Self fund or youse OPM and set good terms. I got mad respect for joyner but he acts like he has way higher expectations than he should of people in the music industry. For all his stories theres artists with 10x worse who figured it out and didn't complain. I'm not saying he isn't right but literally aspiring to be an artist and be rich off music is harder than making the nfl / mlb damn near. At 8:45 he literally answered their own issue lol You're not that kind of artist bro you're an album/ longevity artist and thats fine you cant expect ATLANTIC of all majors to fully cater to you.

Bro, you’re right to an extent, but they literally talking about 8yrs ago when they were young and learning, they’re literally warning and giving advice to artists who haven’t been through these situations, I don’t see where he’s complaining, they learned the lesson and moved on from Atlantic, that’s how they got the $9.2mil deal, most independent artists like Tech n9ne got disillusioned with the labels and went independent, but they still had to learn the game, these dudes aren’t complaining, they were still doing all the work for themselves even when they were with the label, they had a reason to be frustrated, but all their episodes are detailing how they got to where they are now, your message is valid in the sense that you’re explaining what the foundation of an independent artist is and that’s true
