100% the amount of classic albums in those 6 lil years is insane. And none of them had the same sound as the rest. Even just looking at the midpoint, in ‘96 alone we got UGK's Ridin Dirty, Lord Finesse "Awakening", ATLiens, DU “Future Rhythm”, The Score, Stakes Is High, Too Short Gettin It, Reasonable Doubt, BeatsRhymes&Life, Soul On Ice, Jeru “Wrath Of The Math”, OGC Da Storm, T.H.U.G.S., Hell On Earth… and that’s just a SHORT list

I will give you the 86 part I said 87 with Criminal Minded but Run DMC were at their peak in 86. Rakim had just debuted, Slick Rick, Juice Crew so yeah... But starting in 92/93 at the end of the New Jack era when Dr. Dre dissed the Afrocentric conscious movement was the beginning of the end in all reality because commercially, conscious music just was never viable in the market again

I began investing in stocks and Def earlier this year, and it is the best choice l've ever made. My portfolio is rounding up to almost a million and I have realized that when a stock makes it to the news, chances are you're quite late to the party, the idea is to get in early on blue chips before it becomes public. There are lots of life changing opportunities in the market, and maximize it.

I think it was their arrogance and their constant dissin' of other regions... when they booed Outkast at the '95 Source Awards, that was the beginning of their downfall... because when No Limit, Cash Money, UGK, 8 Ball & MJG started bubbling, the Southern audience kinda stopped fw NY and stuck strictly with Southern artists... I was in the South during that time and I was an outlier because I was the only one in my circle still listening to New York music...

DMX dropped 2 albums, but his second album came out in December at the end of the year, so it was really a '99 album. '95-'96 was Biggie & Tupac.. also Mobb Deep, Nas, Wu, Busta, AZ, Foxxy, Kim, etc. The Lox debuted in '97. NY was still on top in the late '90s, but other regions started making their presence known, like the South and Midwest. Early '90s, specifically 1993. All that balance and variety we had was something special. G-funk, boom-bap, lyrical/wordsmith, gangsta, party, kiddy, Southern, knowledge, etcetera. It was the perfect time. Nobody sounded exactly the same and regional identities were the norm. And the producers of the early '90s...whew! Remember them lil' horn inflections during the opening of a record? Mr. Pete Rock, Mr. Marley Marl and just...man! Looking back, it was legit a dream. Listen to Intelligent Hoodlum's _At Large._ That's the sound I go for as far as N.Y. Hip-Hop is concerned. And then you had Guru w/ the jazz rap which just uplifted my spirit. Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth and Guru/Gang Starr... I don't play about them brothas nah. Uncle Hev's _Blue Funk_ and _You Can't See What I Can See_ just creates a whirlwind of warm memories within my memory bank. Nasir's _The World is Yours_ makes me feel like he's holding my hand and showing me where he grew up. LL Cool J's _Around the Way Girl_ reminds me of making up a step w/ my big cousin and my dad joining in with us. See, I can go on and on for days about this topic. I also have a yen for the late '80s. As the '90s went on, I started seeing my favorite artists get phased out which kinda left a sour taste in my mouth. Why am I not seeing Kwamé, Kris Kross and Chi-Ali no more? Why do I feel slightly spiritually disconnected from Hip-Hop? Something happened right after Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace got taken out. All that blackballing bullsh¡t started to happen. I could feel that through the airwaves. Anyhow, Imma leave it here, fellas because I can go on and on about this topic. Notice that I didn't mention no West Coast or Southern artists/memories because I know how pissy you East Coast brothas get about it so I left it alone (to keep the peace).

☝️Sound of Music changes every 4/5 years, so THAT'S AN ERA 4 TO 5 YEARS NOT A DECADE
@KtotheG
@KtotheG 4 сағат бұрын
In the '90s, it changed every 2-3 years... by the '00s, that's when eras started getting longer, because they stuck with a money-making formula and the innovative acts were squeezed out due to blacklisting.

Eras ain't the same as decades. The 90s were a decade, but there were different eras of hip hop in the 90s. Mid 90s was the greatest era, and 88 was the greatest year.
@KtotheG

Yeah, I keep saying that... eras is about a sound or style that dominated... an era is usually 1-3 years. Eras are getting longer these days, because cats are sticking with the same factory music formula because it earns them a lot of cash... they're afraid to be different nowadays and lead the way with something new. Eras were shorter in the '90s because everybody was trying to be different. "Alright, that was last year... let's try something new this year." Autotune has been going strong for 15 years now... there are no more eras today.

Wait, homie. I'm older than homie. I remember visiting the South since childhood. That NYC vs the South thing was a two way street for a long time. NYC had this arrogance, to where they were too uppity. The South was too pious and judgmental, to where they labeled us dirty. My extended family in FL would, literally, make us air out our bags on the porch, due to their fear of us dirty New Yorkers bringing roaches. And let's not forget the education layer. The first black PhD I met, in my personal life, was my uncle from Florida. Where are most of the HBCUs? The South, right? They would really use their education to their advantage over us to make us feel less than them. And, honestly? In my experience, that NYC arrogance was in response to this mistreatment, but then we all grew out of that BS as adults. .
