Big Pun. Bruh Capital Punishment was a great album and had joints for the guys & the ladies and they all were bangers. Such an underrated artist and album. Pun had that rapid fire flow with no breathing needed like his body functioned without lungs. God level skills!! Pun had the lyrical ability, the delivery, the cadences, the energy, the metaphors and all that. I was like 5 in 98 but even I remember my dad playing that record over and over and over. It was that album along with Nore saying what what what what a million times in a hook plus Jigga. We down south natives but my dad fw New York and never been there. First time listening to hip-hop was all N.Y. as a kid. Pun top 10 when it comes to pure bars and delivery and this from a down south nigga.

Before the albums dropped I'd have to say Canibus was hotter in the town than Pun... Only person that was killing it as much if not a little bit more was X. That class of 97 was deep but Canibus was the only one of the new class hosting entire Clue and Envy and Ron G and DJ Green Lantern mixtapes. I remember in 97 being in the cafeteria and everyone was reciting Canibus freestyles at the table. People we're talking about Pun and X but not as much as they was talking about a Bis Clue freestyle or the Music Makes Me High remix or Yvette Michelle ft Canibus or Brian McKnight ft Canibus or the Buckingham Palace original version when it leaked or the Panama PI, Cheeks and Canibus Group Home song or the Slick Rick album cause they heard Canibus was on it... I'm not saying Pun wasn't shaking the city but Bis got on the Firm album with no connections to the Firm, he was still Lost Boyz, he got on The Professional part I, Clues first album, he got on 4,3,2,1 and Blak Iz Blak with Mos Def & Charli Baltimore. He had several songs with Def Squad, Sticky Fingaz put him on The State vs Kirk Jones as The Prosecutor and he literally battled Redman on that song and won clearly! Common threw him on Making A Name For Ourselves, remixes with Yvette Michelle, 3LW and dropped the hardest freestyle over an R&B beat of all time on "I Speak At Frequencies" ... Nobody was hotter than Bis in 97... On the 30 minute Flex freestyle... He made DMX respect him with his bars and by the time they was at minute 20 X was a fan and NORE didn't even want to rap no more... Y'all gotta put more respect on Bis name and how he shut down the city in 97... His freestyles was getting spins on Hot 97 like they was songs... No cap, the Shout Out To Lost Boyz freestyle was in the top 5 at 5 or whatever it was called back then... Oh and he hosted DJ Clues entire mixtape for the Lost Boyz album release oh and he had a freestyle with Black Rob that people forget and he had a song with Kool G Rap, MOP & Killah Priest in 97 too... If you hip hop you see past the tragedy of losing Pun and call a spade a spade, Pun was NOT killing mixtapes the was Bis was... I was on Jamaica Ave every week at Hot Wax, Sound Factory and the Colosseum buying whole mixtapes because Bis had one feature and one freestyle... Oh and he was on Incarcerated Scarface's with Pun, Killa Sha and Tragedy Khadafi and now outta respect when Canibus mentions Pun he says Pun got him but back then Pun was saying Bis went crazy and he was looking forward to working with him again. Y'all gotta stop this Canibus disrespect... That man shut down hip hop with his first feature and went viral before viral was a thing when we all heard him say he'd walk barefoot across the sun looking for shade on Desperado's... "Rapper" and "lyricist" are two different things. A "rapper" is the product & package displayed to the public and pushed by a label. Both had bars but Pun was the better "Rapper" in 98 because he had a more successful album and fulfilled his packaging displayed to the public. Canibus' first album was a let down so he didn't fulfil his packaging display. But Canibus slightly edges Pun lyrically because Canibus' style in 98 was complexity simplified where as with Pun you really listen to his words to catch his lines.

Its facts, Cole stans cant ever accept it but he was not 'it' back then. He only started to incline more from forest hill drive and even at that time he wasn't entirely touching Kendrick. Real Cole fans don’t care about being “it” lol. The Come Up is honestly some of Cole’s best work in regards to just pure lyricism . You could feel the hunger and raw energy in that project.. And then by time he dropped FNL he was already a legend to me.. I don’t even listen to Kendrick so I ain’t gone speak on him but to me Cole been raw since he first dropped
