Edit: nah Dre tried doing for the culture: NWA, Deathrow, the firm. Then he did it for profit: Beats headphones , Eminem, Iovine, 50 One of these worked. Royce still stuck on ‘for the culture’ Trying to get slaughterhouse off the ground. He the type to need his hand held. That mentorship rhetoric is 🧢 especially in that biz. This is an inaccurate framing. You can’t be a legend without offering some essence of mentorship. Also as an Exec, A&R, Manager and Especially Producer you have to offer Leadership/Mentorship it’s essential for those roles. What is the point of signing with a legend like Dre if you aren’t open to learning via a Mentorship dynamic ? Just for the brand association, which makes sense from a PR perspective but not a career nor from an creative and HIP Hop point of view.

mentor in the aspect of the music industry and how exploitative it can be for young mfs like him coming up, because guess what… Dre had to learn those lessons on his own. it’d literally cost him nothing to pay SOME of that forward to a young black man in a similar situation as he was in. you don’t always have to let mfs fail, is his point, it’s not about hand holding…
@lamaredward222 жыл бұрын
Dre went thru the trials in nwa and death row days, I can see based off his experience thru those times he learned and better himself in the aftermath of those situations, moving forward it can make you not have that much faith in the next artist or producers after you because you thinking that this can go the same way it did before nah I’m not gonna take a chance and possibly making same mistakes. In retrospect, Royce leaving was the best thing he could’ve done. He carved his own lane, & its to the point where we recognize him as his own entity. Had he stayed (who knows) he probably would’ve just been looked at as another Em lackey. Where is D12 today? Probably financially stable, but they have no legacy other than Em’s group. Royce standing on his own 2 made it possible to showcase his abilities to the full extent, & that’s why he’s not just another rapper in Em’s shadow. Maybe things would’ve played differently had he stayed, but it’s all speculation, so who knows
@Subs13382 жыл бұрын

For Eminem, D12 died when proof died. That's why they're not around today, not because they were Em's lackeys!! Proof dying is also why D12 never got to add to their legacy and why people just see them as Em's group today because Proof's death made their run very short and damaged their legacy!!

Royce respects Dre and Em. That’s clear. He also doesn’t worship them, which allows him to speak more critically of them than most in Hip Hop are used to hearing. I think that’s refreshing considering Royce’s stature as an elder statesmen and elite-elite level MC. Royce being right or wrong is subjective to those actually involved.
@lwhite21522 жыл бұрын
The delusion of this statement. It’s fine that he can speak critically but the way he loves to hang out with people who disrespect Em on the daily for click and clout is weird especially after Em changing his life. Royce can't ignore his part in it all either. He never seems to take accountability or get out of the way of his own ego. Can somebody please tell Royce that if he would have signed with Dr Dre that he may have ended up with simular careers like Hittman or Bishop Lamont. Stuck on a shelf. Even his partner Joell Ortiz never ended up dropping any material on Aftermath. People assume that he would have created great commercial records like Snoop,Em,50 and The Game because he may have had the chance to be mentored by Dr Dre. That most likely wouldnt have been the case. He is who he is because of the road he travelled. He is one of the highest regarded and respected MC’s. Whats better than that?

We all know Math from battle rapping but who are the other guys on the panel?

Royce spoke the truth on this one. He may be wrong on other things, but this was true. Dre should have shared the information. We do not mentor. We punish..and these rap dudes like Math Hoffa do not get it..because they are emotional. ANY dude who gossips for a living is emotional..and Math Hoffa is a gossiper because rap did not yield what he needed. Men who gossip are overly-emotional.

This is hilarious. If a "white" journalist said that to him he would be crying about that journalist not saying that to a "white" artist.
