Y'all actin like nas was independent. Thats some ignorant to say to someone who it seems like could see Nas cracked the code and didn't want to make the wrong moves. Nature talking in circles, all these conversations was had and people spoke on this back when it was happening. All you got to do is pull out any copy of The Source or Rap Grid or Blaze or whatever back around the time that nature's album came out and people were saying that he put out a dud. Nas told nature, he told him to wait for him to come back and don't do the album with Trackmasters. Nas said he had a plan for Nature and all he had to do was wait for him to come back from overseas and Nature's album was going to sound like an extension of what Nas was doing and have all hands on deck to make it a classic album with beats from LES, from Preem, maybe one or two from TrackMasters, probably a couple Havoc beats, Q-tip and so on, Nas wanted to do the album the right way. People forget that when Nas took 50 on tour 50 was still on Columbia records, it wasn't about Nas choosing to take 50 over Nature, it was the label making a move to keep the buzz going for their most talked about new artist at the moment. Nas was working with both of them but Columbia records wanted and felt like 50 should be the focis and all Nature had to do was be patient and become the third head of Columbia records three-headed monster (before they dropped 50 and he signed to Shady) but he didn't listen and took matters into his own hands and dropped a dud. He has no one to blame but himself for the way things turned out. Big Noyd came up under Mobb Deep and he didn't jump out the gate and do his own thing, he was patient twice, he was doing his first album and getting buzz then got locked up and the label put out Episodes of a Hustler with little promo but it gave him even more buzz in the streets and he came home anf he waited for havoc and Prodigy to figure out his journey for a second time and to let him loose and tell him it was his time and he put out his second album and found a lot of love and got a lot of play on the radio because he was patient and let Havoc work out the vision the way he saw it for Noyd. Nature is a legend, nothing can be taken away from his legendary verses a d contributions to some of the greatest tracks during the golden era of rap but he also made bad decisions and didn't let the universe take him to where Banned From TV and Sometimes I Wonder and Projects Too Hot and 5 Minutes to Flush was gonna put him. He could have been at least to Nas what Bleek and Beanie was to Jay... But he blew it and never found his way the way the Cormegas of the world did. Salute to the legend though, coming from a Jamaica Queens kid who was rooting for everyone from Queens to win back then but then Nature moved to Marcy 🤦🏾‍♂️

Just going by what you wrote, it’s unfortunate the album was considered lackluster but can there be a flip side to the perspective? Nature could have waited on Nas, this is true. But this is a hungry kid in his twenties who feels he needs to make a move. Maybe Nature is in the hood not feeling safe at the time and is dealing with pressure that he will lose it all. Who is to say that if he waits for Nas things will turn out the way as planned. I’m a huge Nas fan. Not the biggest Nature fan but does Nas have a major history of putting together “entire” projects for other artists at a consistent rate during that particular time? Were all of those projects successful? I mean He’s definitely written great songs for and with other artists. I mean it would have been super interesting but not sure of how the success of that would have been. One thing to agree Nature has to take accountability for his actions. It’s his decision and his art, you have to wear it. I understand the taking 50 Cent on tour thing that makes sense. Anyway, I’m not mad at the idea that if he waited for Nas the turnout would have proved better.

Much like G Rap, Nature didn't compromise his style nor his sound. It was straight gritty from beginning to end. A few of the joints had some pop/radio potential but even then it stuck to main act which was his lyricism/storytelling. Rap was getting more into the shiny suit era and folks were leaning away from the hardcore, street era. X, Mobb Deep, NORE to an extent kept to that tradition but they were major label artist who were signed. I don't think Nature's representation was right.

I still like Esso's original take earlier in the conversation... Nature needed a team/staff behind him to PROD and PUSH him... there is nothing wrong with needing external encouragement. ESPECIALLY a street n---ga... Nature needed his own team but he was on some street shht and "this is the homey, we gone make it!" type shht. So I don't blame Nas or Him, the industry has many lanes... he was moving too slow and Nas was rising fast... I am a HUGE FAN of both of them... And like Nature said, he was like the poor mf in the crew surrounded by multimillionaires... Not everyone handles pressure the same... As I said previously... Esso hit the nail on the head, he needed a team/staff behind him seperate from Nas' team/staff...

And you also got to remember it was nas brother jungle that brought nature to nas and was semi managing him and nore is well. Then after nas got mad and brought 50 on tour with him instead of him, nature put a song on his first album called we ant friends taking shots at nas. That's why if you listen to destroy and rebuild nas spits "of course we ant friends you never stood on the block." This was basically his response to to nature's we ant friends.

Taking into consideration what both Nature and Nas points of view are I have this to say, We all are imperfect human beings nobody is perfect. As we get older we're suppose to evolve being better than we were the year (or years some ppl get stuck) before with that being said it's time to move on and if possible they should have a convo about their past situation and move on. We always holding onto grudges ppl be forgetting this life is temporary and you don't know when your time is up so don't waste your precious time and energy 🙏💯😌✌. Also we all make bad decisions, choices and stupid/ignorant mistakes at some point in life but your suppose to learn from it not hold onto grudges and hold ppls past mistakes against them, that serves no good purpose only pain, resentment and anger😐💯. And I don't judge anyone I'm not qualified that's God's job/domain. I wasn't there when Nas & Nature started beefing so I can't say who's wrong or right. It doesn't affect my life either and I enjoy reading about my fav celebs but I don't get invested in their lives (I didn't know their fallout was that serious) and Nas is one of my favs Hip Hop Mc's from my gen 🙂 I'm to busy living my life......💯% I wish them both nothing but continued love/happiness and success 🙏❤🍫👑😌.

Always like Nature but, I feel like he's gotta take some responsibility. Even in this clip when talks about himself in comparison to the other firm members, he says he didn't feel on their level in some way or another which he believed affected his progress etc. But, that's where Nas told him "I can't hold your hand in this" "I believe in you believe in yourself" Ultimately, Nature needed more of a grind and competitive spirit to maximize the opportunity he was given. He was a great talent and wish him all the best but, the moment may have been too big for him at the time to grasp.

As big as Nas was during his peak, understand that in the late 90s it was still difficult for a rap artist to push another rap artist into the spotlight, and get the attention they deserve. Nature was a dope artist, but didn’t have the same star power, and musical appeal as AZ & Foxy. I still listen to Doe or Die, & ILL Na Na ON THE REGULAR. Both classics. It was gonna be hard for Nature to blow regardless because he hadn’t dropped an album PRIOR to joining The Firm. Whereas Foxy & AZ already had made a name for themselves.

Excatly. Plus ppl already had a dismissive attitude towards him becasue he replaced Mega. He needed to jump out, take the baton and gooooooooooo! He didn't really do that. He had his moments but ppl didn't really gravitate to him. Like the 'I'm Leaving' record was craaaaaaazy but everyone only mentions how NORE killed it. Mega had a HUGE underground folllowing just off being mentioned in 'One Love' and his verse on 'Affirmative Action'. He needed to match that and he couldn't. And to keep it a buck, Mega was/is just nicer wit it than Nature. That fact kinda jaded alot ppl towards his music.
