3:50 I'm one of the 24 year olds who saw this all happening real time growing up and just feeling like all of my peers are ignoring the difference in quality and competitiveness. Going as far as having to look deep inside myself and contemplate whether I'm just being racist and trapped by early childhood nostalgia is the only reason I like 90s/00s hip hop so much I eventually came to the conclusion that Rap is more white than it has ever been in terms of artists and Fans (so my hate is probably not related to being white) and that I'm extremely hopeful for these new guys coming up like J.I.D, Griselda, Dax etc. So I've become more comfortable in my dislike of practically anything 2010s style .
@D-One
@D-One 2 жыл бұрын
Here's one more reason: Hip-Hop changes dramatically every decade or so, while genres of those "revered old artists" mostly stay the same, this makes their careers last a lot longer while in Rap it's very hard to stay on top if your wave is no longer what's popin, unless the artist is willing to keep changing and ridding all the new waves but it's usually goofy to see a 55yr rapping the way 17yr rap... 🤷‍♂
@TollFree999
@TollFree999 2 жыл бұрын
Rap has been around long enough to have an audience old enough to support the older artists. But older rap fans only buy their favorite artists older stuff. I see it all the time when someone like Meth drops an album but no one in that age group I know actually supported the project even when it's solid. So then they have to rely on the younger fans supporting them which doesn't work as well, since they'd understandably rather support someone in their age bracket first.

@@TollFree999 this is what y'all don't understand these older folks you speak of don't buy cds or pay to stream music and give their hard earned money to people who already rich 😂 things always change it's still the same game most older artists stuck in the past you literally can blow up off KZbin the younger generation are the sheep who artists should always focus and prey on to have success being salty at the younger artists not gonna help you in no way you Collab and capitalize put your feelings aside its all business at the end of day
@D-One
@D-One 2 жыл бұрын
@@TollFree999 I also sort of see that around my circle, i'd say it's 50/50, half of the ogs still listen to new stuff from guys like meth the other half only listen to the old joints... Tie that to the fact that back when Meth was popping the amount of people listening to hip-hop was tiny compared to now, that also plays a part because like you said new fans tend to relate more to their age bracket with a few expectations like Jay-Z, J Cole, etc... It's really a lot of factors that contribute to OG's not having the deserved attention and let's face it, many of them lost also lost that youthfull hunger and fell off.

There could be many reasons for hate and bitterness from the OG's. It's hard to quantify a single reason for it as it's individual bias's at play. But as a general what might be reason could be, the way they were raised by how harsh the street's were. How hard it was to make it, how hard it was to trust people, and dealing with rivalry. And that rivalry mindset hasn't left um. Dog each dog.

It's a matter of leadership qualities, a leader doesn't reciprocate the "other" group's negative energy towards them, but finds that which is positive. There are leaders among old heads, there are leaders among new kings. Jay-Z always paid homage and bridged the gap with his predecessors, including PE who was always "sh**ing" on him and his generation. Chuck Dee always felt he was not needed because he was not an activist like they were, Jay-Z felt "I cannot help the poor if I'm one of them". In the end Hov took Hip Hop to where PE could not have, and then he actually listened to them and found a balance.

The difference between music from our generation, I'm 46 and grew up listening to literally everything but my genuine love is Rap/HipHop, because it was storytelling at its best when it began with people like Eazy E, NWA, Slick Rick, Bone Thugs and too MANY more for me to mention but today's music is more about shock value and the club beats without a story line behind it and when it does have a story line these kids think it has to be extremely literal where it is leading to possible indictments and them losing everything because they feel that people gangsta rap came from a time when that's how people had to support their families through street shit but learned they could turn those bad experiences into a music career and have wealth and fame they were telling kids NOT to do these things because you CAN find a way out and they told the stories in HYPOTHETICALS NOT Outright facts that could be proven the kids didn't get that understanding because nobody say and explained this is what they said and this is what they meant because kids today don't listen to ALL OF THR LYRICS there hear the Beat and a word here and there and decide on what they believe it means without a full understanding of metaphor, simile, or anything other that the song said this so I have to do this to prove to these OGs that I AM this or that but the kids these days don't have a clue because I have a 20 year old daughter and a 7 year old son and they both have grown up listening to Hip-hop and they both get totally different meanings and like totally different stuff for various reasons but especially my 7 year old son even in conversation he hears a word or two he's told and decides what he thinks you meant from those certain parts he hears but I go back through it with him and slow tuff down and explain and it takes a few times and then he gets it but everyone gets a different meaning from the same exact thing depending on their view of it and a lot of people in my generation don't either want or have the time to sit and ask their kids about the music and the meaning behind it and especially kids from extreme poverty with single or no parental supervision so they have to rely on themselves and too many of these kids also never learned the VALUE OF RESPECT and our generation that was TOP PRIORITY and so when people see the amount of disrespect these days not many are willing to take the time to educate because it's easier to just ignore and go about their own lives when if more people would try to instill the value of respect and the knowledge behind the lyrics then maybe our kids and grandkids would actually learn from the mistakes of the past and not be damned to repeat them just like the lyrics of one of mine and my son's favorite songs that I broke down to him- Welcome to Real Life(ft. Kryzie Bone, Hussein Fatal, King Malachi & Arsenal) they explain what they've been through and it's not where you want to be but they aren't giving details to anything to be snitching on anyone or anything because they are trying to teach and educate that it could lead to jail or death and some had no other choices but to do things they've done but they also had to pay the price for those decisions also so when people see the lack of RESPECT and these younger generations acting entitled and thinking they know everything when they don't have a clue then it's hard to take the time to care or give them respect so these conversations are extremely important but it doesn't help if the kids don't listen. Keep trying though because it takes time but hopefully it'll change things one day!! #respect #weneedmorecommunication

The young generation haven't honed their skills over years of standing on the block and getting the most out of floppy disk samplers. They weren't built in cauldrons of fire or under pressure of living up to expectations of uniqueness, lyricism, flow, cadence and wittiness. They just express themselves. There's a reason why kids will choose McDonalds every single day over a Michelin star restaurant. McDonalds appeals to them. They don't care about the work and skill and renown. Just the sound and how it makes them feel. The 60s had some great music that I can appreciate now. But when I was a kid, it was depressing. Sounded like something long gone, black and white, backwards and sad. I was wrong af but that's what that music brought to mind.

#METHODMAN #MATHHOFFA Question!? Isn't battle rap a big part of the origin of hip hop!? Okay so the reason why I believe the cause as to why hip hop isn't perceived and/or treated the same as rock n roll and/or country, is because hip hop has a strong element that has been manifested from the jump. And do too that, it is like the MMA of music genre where as country did not formulate with the same element now although there is competition in all genres, basically the artists competing for different reasons, the element of competition is higher and the level of aggression or should I say the element of aggression is a lot more higher too so look at it like you look at the periodic table different elements fam, just is, what it is, but overtime with pushing a new mindset you could decrease the norms perception when viewing the music genre of hip Hop, but to remove the atom or nucleus out of hip Hop then it would no longer be hip-hop it would be something else. Or at least that's the best articulate bs I could come up with to voice my opinion in they attempt to try and make some sense out of y'all's why this, why that question lol no offense just playin' a little, but yeah, that's the best understanding I could come up with. Yeah, hip hop/ Emcees are looked at more like boxers and/or fighters vs musicians and nobody wants to watch old boxer, in their 70s fighting, it wouldn't be as entertaining not fair, but that's life, right!? Wish I had could fly like a bird sometimes, but God made me a man so gotta appreciate it, for what it is. I could have the wings of a bird, but then I'd have to except the bird brain that comes with it, so just appreciate the beauty of it. Yeah, the world audience might not perceive Emcees/rappers as musicians, but what they can't take away from Emcees/rappers/hip hop is it's sphere of influence so take that fact about it and stride. You know what, now that I think about it, it's the same reason why a real snow white pale ass dutch man couldn't pull off dressing like a gangster as good as a brother could, not saying he couldn't look fly, but let's be real, who would compliment the gangster wardrobe more better, Pee-wee Herman or PAC!? And that's do to us being condition to viewing different races/faces of different cultures, it could be changed, but that would take mad time and lots of trading places, in fashion. As dope as Eminem as he still needed a cosine like Dre to give him a Fighting Chance to be received.

I get what your saying. Hiphop also can absorb any genre. The original battles were copied off battle of the band style events. The crowd chose who played better. They didn't rap in each other's face. They did a routine and the others did a routine. Just like r&b and rock bands did for decades. The hits that put hiphop on the charts were not combative or competitive. They focused on the party. The party was the point of hiphop.

The older hip-hop artists are revered by the TRUE fans, now more than ever….. but I will agree it’s different in different genres, for instance, I’m a metalhead, but I love all different kinds of rock, me and my friends have revered Jimi Hendrix, a black man in the rock world, ever since we were kids, and we haven’t lost one bit of that appreciation and he was hot in the 60s he died in the 60s, and all my friends still be sporting Hendrix shirts like we were coming up in the 90s….We still talk about his wizardry on the guitar, we still learn his shit, still play his shit…..in the rock world it is an unspoken rule that you do not disrespect the pioneers, that shit doesn’t even happen, so whoever was making a point about the genres is really onto something….Just even the thought of like a newer metal band throwing shade at Metallica is just an insane thought, wouldn’t happen

I always said it, New York always had the privilege of playing true NY Hip-Hop because DanceHall and Reggae were are dancing music. We love their music jus as much, so artists never had to make dance or club music. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

I'll think that's a super tricky dangerous line to walk for the architects of this hip-hop/rap thing to call what the newer generation(s) of hip-hippers/rappers are doing trash because I'm sure their (architects)parents told them that "this hippity Bibbidi rap is crap" . .. "don't nobody want to hear that". .. but they kept doing it anyway. [Thank you for keeping it going. 💪🏽🙏🏽💚 FULL GRATITUDE].. and because you architects of this hip-hop thing went through the resistance of hip-hop first,. .. ..🤷🏽 why repeat and regurgitate the resistance with those coming in and up after you guys 🤷🏽 . .. turn around and waive to them or even stop and greet and talk to and welcome them. ..ijs

It's one reason why the younger generation don't want do music with older artist; is because they are not as lyrically talented as the older artist; that's just true facts in many cases. Trap music and drill are not Hip Hop music; it's a big difference in the three. They should of never put them in the same category. Hip Hip is in class all it's own. Peace and blessing.

I think we just need to let every generation be who they want to be, nothing will ever compare to your age group and what you were exposed to liking at that time. Each generation will not like the currents generation music as much as their own but no need to diss their music and what they perceive is hip hop. That’s how it all started anyways, u experiment with beats and rhyming and u create your own art. Every generation will be different, enjoy your generation as it’s here forever once the music is made and let these new generation of hip hop artist/rappers do what they think is best. What needs to happen is getting rid of these major record labels.

B/c it’s a distinctly fatherless culture. Real legacy, culture and history is passed down in families around the dinner table and on road trips. Not from watching MTV and BET. Elders aren’t respected b/c the concept of being “fathered” is lacking in the culture tremendously.
