@@unknownx7252 Man, Hip Hop became pop culture decades ago !!! You listen to who you listen to but with acts like RUN DMC, LL, Fat Boys, Beastie Boys, NWA, 2 Live Crew along with Hammer & vanilla Ice early on, it was there since the early 90’s !! It might not have been the biggest genre but it was Popular. It’s not the rebel music it used to be. Talking that street shit is POP !! Females sexualizing their raps is POP !! When you go against the grain and do some thing different even when it’s dope and it don’t hit, it’s basically “whatever” to the fans. Peeps might say they feel RapSody but masses is Nicki Minaj & Latto (POP).

Let's just call it like it is.... new artist simply aren't as talented. It is a different time. The problem is technology has made it too easy to get on and go viral. Great beats and autotune can cover up weak rhymes. Back then, record labels were the gate keepers that kept quality high. Now we are in an era of quantity over quality and anyone can put out a song.
@jman15620012 жыл бұрын
To a degree yes, a lot of young folk are not aspiring to be mcs they want the trappings of the rap lifestyle (fame, money, women, materialism, etc.) which ironically you can get without getting on the mic....I do think hip hop is missing curators of the art form. Even in the golden era there was good and bad records, but the curators thru the djs set the standard. Now an algorithm curated to an individual dictates terms. I think talent will rise but who are the folks curating to help project them to the world. I truly believe when the DJ became disconnected from the MC is when hiphop began to decline, and subsequently rap music came up.
@Unc0mmonSense2 жыл бұрын
@@jman1562001 Yeah, rapping is the new come up and escape from the hood. The focus isn't on the art form but using it as a hustle. The problem with hip hop is that as an art form, you can still be fairly mediocre and "make it". You don't actually have to be as good as Kane, Rakim, and all the other greats and actually be successful. Just find a hot beat, come up with something catchy, maybe fabricate some hard luck story, get your views up and next thing you know you are a rap star...
@jman15620012 жыл бұрын
@@Unc0mmonSense Well TBH I think that became true by the late 90s.....When Puff sold the No Way Out album it set a precedence that you ain't have be the main writer of the expression. Hot beats and catchy hooks, and other writers will carry you. It just got progressively worst and devolved. Nas was right for saying "hip-hop is dead" when he said at the time, people just thought he was hating. Creativity and imagination is at a all time low in the mainstream. The underground keeps things vibrant and maybe imo that's for the best. And I don't want to sound like a hater but maybe hip-hop reached it's peak. No guarantee that this was supposed to last forever and things would evolve to get better. Salute to the OGs and young artist still carrying on tradition though.

I think its two things: We as black folk have a tendency to de-value ourselves so we unconsciously have a need to cap our potential.. in terms of rap we do it by putting an age cap on it.. secondly.. it's the subject matter.. most of our subject matter in our music is so negative (drugs and violence) that it has a "he don't know no better" disclaimer attached to it almost.. maturity and wisdom comes with age

People forget the "Black eyed Peas" were Pop Hip-Hop. Love them dudes they were Hip-Hop n pop. Originally signed to Ruthless records. Interesting were talkin bout children of the light, God n spiritual things. When we made our first albulm were we thinking about that or were we thinking about fame, fortune, and females??? The "world" has a way of swallowing those principals n beliefs of their not strong. Those that are spiritual know what im talkin about. That part of yourself that sells itself to the passions n desires that are anti-God. Its a shady business n atmosphere. Remember in the 5 heartbeats movie where the parents gave they son a bible n said for him to stay close to God. What did he do what everyone else did n how did he end up? Not listening to wisdom. He was going into an industry that was anti-God.

8:00 - Omar drops a major spiritual gem. HipHop is light energy. It brings people together as one on a higher level. Within the culture we build, teach and learn. It's an energy of enlightenment and manifestation. A path to a higher self where we can surpass the limitations of the impoverished or difficult environments we are raised in. All without compromising who we are, how we talk and how we dress. Not from a mindset of assimilation and colonization but from a position of self awareness, self love, and empowerment. For some it's materialistic and about money. But that's because it's their first time having any major money and they are trying to manifest more.
