Mathias Dieth's Steavens Modded Marshall JCM 800

A few weeks ago, I saw that Mathias was selling this amp, which he used on U.D.O.'s Timebomb album. As a big fan of his work in Gravestone, Sinner, and U.D.O., I just had to buy it.
It has everything you need for that 80s tone and the clean channel is really nice, too.
The amp went into my Rivera Rockcrusher attenuator into a 1988 Marshall 1960BV cab. I mic'ed it with a Sure SM57 and an sE Electronics VR1 Ribbon Mic.
For the reverb, I used the Slate Lustrous Plate Plugin

Bernd Stephan wird es vermutlich nicht interessieren, weil er mit eigen gebauten Amps seinen Weg gegangen ist. In den 80ern hat er mit seinem Tuning Maßstäbe gesetzt. Ich spiele heute noch einen von ihm modifizierten JCM 800 und bin dankbar für seine wegweisende Arbeit. Es gibt heutzutage viele High Gain Amps, was damals nicht der Fall war. Der Sound, den er mit seiner Modifikation generierte, ist wie ich finde unvergleichlich. Ich hatte kürzlich mit meiner Band ein Konzert mit Doom-Größen wie YOB und Bongzilla, ohne mich wichtig machen zu wollen. Wurde gefragt, was ich da anblase. Beim riffing nutze ich die komplette Gain-Leistung des Amps aus, inklusive Boost. Schicke das in eine 4x10er Marshall Box mit 25-Watt-Greenback-Celestions, die man gerne im Jazz-Bereich nutzt. Mehr Brett geht nicht. Bernd Stephan, der lange nicht mehr erreichbar war, hat in seinen Anfängen eine Legende erschaffen. Auch baulich vom Feinsten, das heißt ohne Schaltplan gut reparabel. Wenn ich es richtig verstanden habe, hat Mathias Dieth seinen Amp verkauft. Ich hoffe, er ist in guten Händen.

Yeah, it's a 2204 that's been completely rebuilt except for the transformers.

@@EddyLenz Nice, great tone! Which kind of Marshall's are moddable? I've read the JCM2000 TSL100 can not be modded, what does an amp have to have to be modded?

@@luca4352 Thanks! The JMPs and vertical input 2203/2204 are the best because they don't have any unnecessary stuff in them and have a turret board or PCB that's mounted on the chassis with spacers and not on the controls like on the horizontal input models. Transformers also play a role, as well as the fact that the later Marshalls have PCB mounted tube sockets and several separate PCBs which makes them a no-go for me in terms of modability.

@@EddyLenz Thanks for the answer, I'll do a little research about modding i guess, maybe in some years I'll get you a job haha. How much do people take for modding? I don't mean necessarily your mods, but other people. I'd imagine a mod made by bogner is pretty expensive these days haha

@@luca4352 👍. Depending on the mod and added features they can be from 200 to about 1000€. Mine don't go that high, yet haha. But if I'd do a complete rebuild with multiple channels and footswitching it would also get expensive. But as I'm starting my own amp company I'm not gonna rely on mods and they'll become more and more of a secondary thing for me.
