Please note that at 6:15 I have accidentally used the reciprocal of the slopes of PA and AQ to develop the equation of a line. I noticed that at about 6:30 your substitution for the two slopes came out as 1/slope, or similarly, cotangent instead of tangent. Either way, cross multiplication yields the sane result, but had you meant to use tangent?

Because 1x + 1x = 2x. So that's the distance.
