Pede is the famous prasad offered to Lord Krishna in Mathura.
Mathura ke Pede are always taken back as Prasad by the devotees. They have a long shelf life due a drier texture as compared to Peda from other places.
Making the traditional Mathura ke Pede is a long time consuming process but I have made it all easy for you.
This Mathura ke Pede require only 15 minutes to make but taste as good as the traditional ones.
To make these pedas, we will first make the tagar, that is used in place of sugar.
Using tagar increases the shelf life of the peda and improves the taste and texture too.
And then we will make these Mathura ke Pede with milk powder but get the same dark colour and grainy texture too!

Recipe:
Mathura ke Pede
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Serves: 10-12
Ingredients:
For Tagar:
2 cups sugar
½ cup water
1 tbsp ghee
For peda:
2 cups milk powder
4 tbsp ghee
½ cup milk
1 cup tagar
Method:
For the tagar:
Cook the sugar with water till it comes to a boil. Stir continuously.
As soon as the syrup gets foamy, add the ghee and mix well.
Remove from heat and keep stirring vigorously till the mixture starts drying up and you have crystalised tagar ready with you.
For the peda:
Take the milk powder and ghee in a pan. cook over low heat stirring continuously till the milk begins to turn golden brown but does not burn.
Remove to a pan. Add in 1 cup tagar and mix well.
Make marble sized balls of the mixture and roll in tagar to coat with the sugar.
Store up to a month.
