In that world cup he played one game or two. Not even worth to talk about it. He was a good player for small teams, almost never important at Milan. In that champions League that u talk about he stayed on the bench most of the time. He scored a goal as a substitute against MU the third one and this is the only important goal that I can remember as a Milan fan. The day he left Milan was a great joy to me.

Dreamer 07 Still showed up and was great when it mattered the most. Also made goals in qualifying and against Anderlecht during that Champions League season. During the World Cup he competed with Luca Toni, Totti, Del Piero, Iaquinta and Inzaghi and still managed to score Italys only goal vs USA and the brilliant assist to Del Piero vs Germany I always thought he got too much shit when he played for Milan, but it was because he was going to be the ”new Shevchenko”. And that step was too big for him at that time. Such a shame, because he was absolutly phenomenal when he played for Parma

In 2004 we had Vieri, Cassano, Del Piero, Totti, Gilardino, Inzaghi and in 2006 Toni, Del Piero, Totti, Gilardino, Iaquinta, Inzaghi. But we had also Di Natale, Di Vaio, Miccoli and Quagliarella that were good strikers. But Gilardino was one of the best strikers in Italy. Maybe not good as Toni, Vieri and Inzaghi but way better than Quagliarella and Iaquinta. Totti, Del Piero, Cassano and Baggio were different strikers.

CRIMINALLY underrated ... He played for "small/medium" teams almost his entire career and he ended up scoring an ASTONISHING amount of goals; 10th best Serie A scorer of all time. A pure, classic number 9. One of my favourites of that era. I remember buying him almost every season for my fantasy football team at a very low price, cuz everybody underrated him :D. He even made me win the tournament in 2014, when he played for Genoa. BTW, if Inzaghi had played for the teams Gila played for, he would've scored half the goals Gila scored (at best).

kids will say "those were different times the game was slower back then". but these videos prove that these players from 90s and 2000s were better on the ball,they had more composure,more flair. the sport was just more competitive. Cristiano and Messi are freaks of nature and did raise the bar but there were more players doing that more often in those times. the reason why there wasnt such a dominance from one or two players for long back then.

What they lacked in physicality they made up for in technique. Now players focus too much on physicality. Only thing they focus on is speed and stepovers. Everyone wants to be like Ronaldo or Messi. I’m about ready for them to retire.

He wasn't underrated, i remember when it came to Milan from Parma, he was the best young italian striker. He scored and won a lot, but the things were two: 1) Ac Milan that won 2007 UCL played with 4321, Gilardino did the best in an offensive tandem( like he did after in Fiorentina with Mutu) 2) he didn't felt loved enough by Ac Milan fans, especially after Shevchenko transfert and Kaka' s explosion, so he decide after only three years to go to Fiorentina to be the star of the team P.s. At that time the striker of Milan were Inzaghi, Shevchenko, Kaka, Ronaldo, Pato(before the injuries) and in 2006 also Vieri lol

At smaller clubs tho he was good, he and Marco Boreillo are basically the same. Also Pato was alot better injuries just got the better of him. Pato was technically better overall.
