This is my favorite Matilda. She just has it all. She's the best at the singing and dancing, but, beyond that, she just has very smart comedic timing and her expressions are spot on. She's also the cutest little girl out of all of them.

LYRICS Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. So they say, their subsequent fall was inevitable. They never stood a chance; they were written that way - Innocent victims of their story. Like Romeo and Juliet, 'Twas written in the stars before they even met That love and fate (and a touch of stupidity) Would rob them of their hope of living happily. The endings are often a little bit gory. I wonder why they didn't just change their story. We're told we have to do what we're told, but surely Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty. [Chorus:] Just because you find that life's not fair, it Doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it, Nothing will change. Even if you're little you can do a lot, you Mustn't let a little thing like 'little' stop you. If you sit around and let them get on top, you Might as well be saying you think that it's OK, And that's not right. Cinderella, in the cellar, Didn't have to do much as far as I could tell. Her Godmother was two thirds fairy. Suddenly her lot was a lot less scary. But what if you haven't got a fairy to fix it? Sometimes you have to make a little bit of mischief. [Repeat Chorus] And if it's not right, you have to put it right. In the slip of a bolt, there's a tiny revolt. The seeds of a war in the creak of a floorboard. A storm can begin with the flap of a wing. The tiniest mite packs the mightiest sting. Every day starts with the tick of a clock. All escapes start with the click of a lock. If you're stuck in your story and want to get out, You don't have to cry; you don't have to shout. 'Cause if you're little, you can do a lot, you Mustn't let a little thing like 'little' stop you. If you sit around and let them get on top, you Won't change a thing. Just because you find that life's not fair, it Doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it, You might as well be saying you think that it's OK. And that's not right. And if it's not right, you have to put it right. But nobody else is gonna put it right for me. Nobody but me is gonna change my story. Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.

I saw this about a week ago when it was in Denver and it was okay. But during the show I kept feeling like something was off but I couldn't figure out what it was. Watching this video I can put my finger on it. The entire show is wayyyyyyy over choreographed. Like to the point of distraction. It's not bad choreography, but there is so much of it that I got pulled out. Instead of paying attention to the music and story, I kept getting drawn to the choreography and that's not a good thing. Any time you pull your audience out of the story/music/whatever you have a chance to lose them. Not that they lost me, but still. It was very distracting.
@joyenchanted139 жыл бұрын
Completely understand your point of view, but it a difference of perspective, each song has meaning, and adds to their characters, and in some cases greatly contributes to the plot. Such as this song, it's the first real time we see Matilda step up to her parents, and it's the actresses first solo of the song, this song is basically what the moral of the story is, to stand up for yourself. Secondly, the audience is aimed at young children, so for visual purposes choreography is key, it keeps children entertained, as in many cases it's something they haven't really seen before :)

Well I understand that but theatre is supposed to be very exaggerated especially in musicals. And the choreo usually means something.

Yes but this is live musical theatre. It's always supposed to be exaggerated because that's what makes it more engaging. It looks kind of weird here but on stage it would be perfect.
