There should not be spoken about a religious war. The issue is not on religion, but on people. Israel occupied and colonised the Westbank against international law. It has the right to defend itself against Hamas, up to eliminate Hamas. I too mourn the lives lost, from civilians to Israeli soldiers. And the 20,000 Palestinian dead. After predicting that Israel will unleash a campaign like 'no one has ever seen,' or something to that effect - and voicing no concern for probable massive Gazan civilian casualties, witness Operation 'Cast Lead' - he goes on to say that 'there will be peace the moment all the Arabs put down their weapons.' I wonder if he mentions the ongoing Occupation, with all its brutality and dispossession, at all. This does not justify what Hamas did. But I find Matisyahu to be biased and hypocritical. Women and children? Some of what Hamas did is unspeakable. But what of Israeli soldiers shooting Palestinian women holding a white flag who left their homes in Gaza during an Israeli campaign in 2014-2015 to inspect the fires left from Israeli phosphorus bombs? 'Who got there first'? 'Who's more wrong'? Are these really the important questions? His song 'One Day' brought tears to my eyes when it was being sung in both Hebrew and Arabic in Haifa.
