Matka Canyon is a popular tourist destination located in the Skopje region of North Macedonia. It is a narrow and deep canyon created by the Treska River and is a popular spot for rafting, canoeing, and hiking. The canyon is approximately 10 kilometers long and surrounded by high cliffs reaching a height of 300 meters.
The area is home to many wildlife species including eagles, falcons, and otters. There are also several caves and a series of underground lakes in the canyon, making it a popular destination for cave exploration and diving.
Matka Canyon also hosts many historical sites including medieval monasteries, churches, and castles. The most famous of these is the Vrelo Cave, which is the deepest underwater cave in the Balkans and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
