Fzero is a Matlab command that find the roots of nonlinear equations. I show you a simple nonlinear equation that can't be solved analytically (with a pencil and paper). Then I show you how to type the equation into Matlab and use fzero to find its root.

Taylor expanding cos(x) up to O(x^2) and then using the quadratic formula to solve the resulting quadratic equation actually yields a fairly accurate analytical result already :P

You are right, only issue is if the function is non-differentiable.
