This was an EXCELLENT video! I am an antenna engineer and I wish I had seen this video back in graduate school. I couldn't visualize all the math back then but this video shows so much of the complex math in about 17 minutes. Well done sir.

So far the best video about Phased Array Antenna. I wish I could have discovered it earlier. I always struggle to visualize antenna or radar related topics from theory. Thanks a lot for this series of video.

The dark lines is where the signal has a high negative absolute value. The signal is low (near zero) between the white and dark strips.

Amazing graphics. During transmission, is the same amount of electrical power sent to each antenna in the array? How much power? 1 mW/antenna?

Which software did you use to create the radiation pattern?
@GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket5 ай бұрын
I work in IT and learned about beam forming thanks to "newer" wifi tech a number of years ago (I believe Either WiFi N or AC introduced it). Eventually wanted to make an EMP device (as kids are want to do) that was directional, learned a little more about radios and realized I do not have the resources lol ($$$). Not to mention the legal issues, I'm sure the FCC wouldn't take kindly to that. As an adult I've recently regained my interest in radio, less for "dumb teenager stuff" and more for HAM Radio, Medium/short range unlicensed microwave stuff, and now I'm thinking radar might be cool and potentially useful. I wonder if there is a way to combine a HAM license with DIY radar to be allowed to build something "more useful". Say you want to know if someone is flying a drone over your home/property and it's anywhere from a quarter acre to a hundred acre plot. I wonder where the legal limits are, guess I've got some googling to do lol. Then I can decide if learning that black magic is a reasonable use of time as a hobby. Although realistically I'd probably never build it for fear of angering the federal government and it's various unknowable regulations (I'm looking at you FCC).

How can the context of forming a beam and moving the beam around be extended to microphones that are recording sound?

does all of this still hold if i'm sampling each element one by one? fast, but never at the same time. i'm thinking it might shift the peak around, but what i'd really like to know is if it would work at all. assuming it would, does trying to compensate for the "missing" samples make it worse? on an 8 channel system, one of them is always 7 samples "behind".does sampling them in a random order help or hurt? large microphone arrays are terribly expensive, i've had "make a crap one and see how bad it is" in my todo list for years but i keep imagining things that would make it not work at the price i need the hack to be in. (the pio in the pico made using digital microphones on a large scale easy, i'd expect them to tap out at like 18 microphones per pico, but i'm just guessing)
@BrianBDouglas Жыл бұрын
Yep, that time delay would shift the peak around. Here's an audio example that uses time delay to shift the beam: www.mathworks.com/help/phased/ug/acoustic-beamforming-using-a-microphone-array.html#MicrophoneBeamformerExample-3

Hello sir, how to provide unequal distance between antenna elements? Like, its not always 0.5 lambda between all the elements?
@BrianBDouglas11 ай бұрын
In the sensor array analyzer app? If so, then instead of choosing uniform linear array, choose the arbitrary array and set your elements with any spacing.
