Okay people need to start talking about this album more. I mean, yes, all of their albums are legendary and amazing but this album is so underrated. And it's one of their best ones (in my opinion). This album is so emotional and is just full on raw talent I love it so much.

I vividly remember listening to this album at 16 in my childhood bedroom while planning my suicide. I had just gone through the most traumatic experience of my life and decided not to go on because no one gave a fuck anyway... 11 years later I'm listening to this as I build furniture in the house I bought with my wife last year. My 3 cats are sleeping nearby as I sing and hammer the nails in. It does get better, you just have to live long enough to see it happen. I used to think that whole "it gets better" line was bullshit but it really isn't. Early Sunsets Over Monroeville WILL be played at my funeral... It'll just be when I've hopefully died of old age 60 years from now.

This album is so important to MCR as a whole, and people should appreciate it more than it gets credit for. Especially the songs about 9/11, as thats the entire reason MCR was ever created. God bless you, Gerard Way, you talented being.
@beeticket3 жыл бұрын
9/11 really messed up and entire generation of people tbh. I was a child when it happened and it was bad, so I can’t imagine witnessing such a thing as an adult who could fully grasp the horror that had occurred. Gen X gets it and the older Millennials get it, but I don’t think Gen Z can ever really understand how that impacted us. Rest In peace to all those poor souls.

This album is just so powerful. The screams are always on spot, the guitars and the bass are amazing and so fucking dynamic, the lyrics are *actually edgy* and the transitions between the tracks get me every time. How can it be so underrated? This is their first album, and it’s been so adequate that one would think this band has been composing for years. Give bullets the attention it deserves😡😤

@@ladyst4rdust I've tried to get into their other albums and I may even try again at some point because I like everything they're about and their whole aesthetic, etc. But starting at Black Parade, it's just such a departure from this and way too "poppy" for me. I get what they were going for and I respect it but it just doesn't do it for me unfortunately.
@ladyst4rdust4 жыл бұрын
Andrew Manning yeah I get it and it’s completely understandable, not everyone has the same taste in music of course. If you prefer a more metal and less pop sound though I would suggest you give three cheers for sweet revenge a listen if you haven’t already. it’s the album that followed bullets, and it’s just so angsty and some of the guitar riffs are immaculate, if you’re into rock and roll I’d definitely recommend it, it’s my personal favorite off of their discography
@hiendar24074 жыл бұрын

@@watermelon6593 I wasn't around when emo was a whole thing back then, but due to MCR songs nature, they got swept up in it all and are just dubbed as emo by the people who followed on just for the hype. The people who said they were emo and therefore listened to MCR won't be the actual fans here now. I agree, MCR isn't emo, and people who aren't emo like both of us can like them.

Music had always been a study aid and also a way to cope, but it gained outsize importance and psychic weight my senior year of high school fall '17, when I was applying to college and feeling utterly unequipped. The opportunity to go to college (and indeed to go to a high school with great people I was just starting to notice) was a blessing, but the mix of pressure and proximity to an uncertain future strained me, and I fell into a depression around the end of the year. In the car I had started listening to alternative radio, heard Welcome.mp3 and remembered in middle school some of the girls had loved MCR (and were trying really hard to like Danger Days, which had come out a couple years prior - I now respect it for its creative vision but for the most part I can't vibe w/ it). So I was like "huh, that was cool, I'll check the rest of their music out." Very good decision. It wasn't just MCR. A bit later, towards the end of senior year and going into summer '18, I came to find Deftones and then Nine Inch Nails, and as I fell deeper into a kind of spiritual void, their darker work came to resonate more. My time screaming along to Bullets just a few months prior seemed so stupid, tinged as it had been with an embarrassing sort of hope amidst the gloom. I did yardwork to White Pony and languished in my room with The Downward Spiral eviscerating my ears. But for a little while, MCR was a very important companion. I came to really like Three Cheers (especially the heavy stuff towards the back, "Fashion Statement" and "I Never Told You"). Bullets, however, was my first love and among a few hazy memories I can recall jamming to a few of these tracks way more than I ever had with anything else before. I felt the angst and dependency on "Honey, This Mirror." I was entranced by the atmosphere the guys created on "Vampires" (there are so many great moments in that song alone, especially the acceleration into "put the spike in my heart," but the final breakdown "can you...stake me....before" is so satisfying). The riffs and walls of guitar sound on "Drowning Lessons" are impressive enough and then you get to the end where they switch it up and you want it to go on forever. "Early Sunsets" kind of drags but that's kind of the point, him going on torturing himself, and the distinct acoustics/positioning makes it nice. "Skylines and Turnstiles" might be my favorite, despite some of the lyrics being unwieldy, because it has intensity, spirit, and a couple lines that are more than worth it. I always got chills when the verse gave way to the guitar and Gerard went "that's if you've still got one that's left/inside that cave you call a chest." I thought for the longest time it was "cage," as a play on ribcage but also to go along with the rest of the song , signifying how our routines are restricting our spirits and wasting our precious mortal lives. But cave is adequately dark lol. But oh my god, I had never heard anything like "Demolition Lovers." It blew me away. The morose, dampened intro drawing you in; the imagery of exile, survival, violence, waning life, even apocalypse; Gerard's raw screams and the passion in his voice; the alternation from slow and soft to driving to quiet to building up again; the lyrical themes; a narrative that was so metal it continued into the next album. Are you kidding me? Cinematic. This is a little "I'm 14 and this is deep" but I think, besides the wicked musicality and emotion and storytelling, there's another good idea here, hardly an original one but one that's presented well. "all we are is bullets" together with the album title suggests a couple things. First, even when you have people you love and want to protect, that protection can require you to cut others down and burn the world to put our loved ones first - your acts of devotion to them can force you to destroy, so you still define yourself as a "bullet" for them if not against them. Secondly, within close relationships, you care greatly for another person but you also make yourself vulnerable to them and might give them the ability to hurt you. You become bullets to one another. "After everything we've put each other through" Gerard sings earlier, suggesting the relationship between two people who can dish out and take a "hail of bullets" is hardly free of wounds itself. Finally, if you fail to protect a loved one, or if you lose them, the closeness of the connection means you're utterly destroyed. Gerard's character seems to want to die together, but that might be because it would be unimaginable to end the relationship a different way, leave his lover and live without her. Is every song great? No. Are some of the lyrics a little edge-lord, even more so than on later albums? Yes. But there is so much creativity and musical talent on display, not even for a debut album. I know my fondness for this thing is affected by nostalgia and its role at a dark time in my life, but I think there's tons of inherent value and soul in Bullets, and I'll vouch for it. Glad to see so many others enjoying it.

I found MCR in 2020 at one of the lowest points in my life. I was 13 going on 14 back then and was in a pretty bad place mentally because of an abuse my ex friend was putting the trough. MCR really helped me cope with all the trauma and create the person I am today. "you're not in this alone" is the 1st line of skylines and turnstiles which was the very very 1st song the have ever written and it shows how much this band cares about their fans.
