Alekhin is a beast. The precision of which his moves are calculated is unbelievable. I call him the chess scientist.

Am I the only one who is fascinated that a major chess championship would be held in Nazi Germany as the Total War of WWII was raging?

Leepin never knew what hit him. A common occurrence among Alekhine's opponents.

when the white knight went to g5 and alekhine pushed his pawn threatening the bishop, why did white not fork the queen and rook? What's the downside of that continuation for white ?

Wher e is the pawn sacrifice?
@Watermelon_Man92
@Watermelon_Man92 8 жыл бұрын
The sacrifice is not forced but it does happen in the game. If I were White I would have actually immediately traded away the dark square bishop because I know that due to the possible (and likely) f4 move from Alekhine, the bishop is likely to become a liability so I would rather have it off the board.

i believe Mato means c7 pawn sacrifice and not f4. He says that now white is a pawn up @ 2:25.

Are you talking about 2:18? Because Black can play Qe7. Then if White plays Nxf8, Black plays fxe3 bishop and where is the white Knight going? If he takes on h7, Black can play exf2+ and the Rook on f1 cannot take because of Bc5 pinning and winning the rook, and if King takes the pawn on f2, Black takes the knight on h7 anyway, basically trading a rook for 2 minor pieces and leaving White king exposed with Rf8+ coming

brilliantly calculated attack on the king side! its amazing how Alekhine takes advantage on the fienchetto pawn structure in front of the casteled king to coordinate his pieces. its a shame that white traded his dragon bishop to a piece which is not black's light squared bishop if such trade happened early in the game white would have done much better I think

Once again, Alekhine eliminates the opposing king's defenders and then launches a relentless mating attack. By the end of the game, White's king was facing Black's queen and bishop -- with almost no White pieces to help defend him.

I guess I would've supported Fischer, since he would be the only one needing it! No, but seriously, I think Fischer would have put up some interesting resistance and maybe have lasted more than 25 moves, mmm?

Trading away the defensive fianchetto bishop while the opponent has it's counterpart is usually not a good idea. You have to know exactly what you are doing to make that kind of decision and have it turn out okay. As a matter of fact, if I'm in a situation where my opponent tries to invade my king's camp with a bishop that I cannot challenge, and that bishop is attacking a rook, in many cases I'll let the bishop take the rook because that's how bad I want that bishop off the board.
