Thanks, folks, for the kind words, as always. Know that I try to keep up with your comments, but since they are on @matonizz's channel, I do not always see them--at least not immediately. Make sure to subscribe also to my channel as these always post there as well (and usually earlier). And of course, Merry Christmas! It's the most wonderful time of the year--especially for brass.

Thanks. I'm always fighting the KZbin limitations on dynamic contrast! I'm getting better at managing things in the mixing process, but this one (and all three quintet pieces this Christmas season) had to be limited...grrr! So, it actually was MORE dynamic before it was mastered for KZbin.

I do like the baritone in quintet. The range is a bit less ideal than the French Horn or tenor horn, but it still works--especially with a good player.
@michaelshelley12892 жыл бұрын
@@TheMusicofDrewFennell can i ask what you mean by "the range"?? i can make my baby sing so I'm not sure if you are referring to high notes or low notes
@TheMusicofDrewFennell2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelshelley1289, I'm sure you can, but I'm speaking of *ideal range*. When I think of French Horn range, the sound centers, for me, around F4 or G5 (though the horn has a gigantic range to below the bass clef staff). Baritone can play those notes of course, but it centers more on something like a Bb3 or C4. It's not about what is possible, but what is practical--and that's what good arrangers focus on. And in a brass quintet, it's good to have an instrument that easily spans the gap between bass and treble (and maybe leans treble). I think horn does that most easily. Nonetheless, it's a good discussion and a fair point.

@@jitsu4872, I'll do my best to remember for next year. I love both of those. GKW is part of a pretty cool extended medley I did years back for brass quartet and keyboard...maybe that'll make an appearance.
