Disclaimer: I do not own the original song, nor any other aspects of the game from which the song originates. This is a cover, made using the program MuseScore2, of a song composed by Nobuo Uematsu for Final Fantasy, a video game created and published by Square (now Square Enix). This video is a transformative work and therefore falls under Fair Use.
You know what’s sad? Even though RPGs are my favorite video game genre, the only Final Fantasy game I have played so far is the very first game. I’m hoping to fix that in the future, but for now, I enjoyed playing this one even in spite of the problems of the NES version. The music for the game is really good, and many of them, including this one, are considered classics nowadays.
For this one, I decided to slow it down a bit to give the warmth and beauty of the instruments more opportunity to shine through. Between the oboe (wow, I’ve been using this instrument quite a bit lately, haven’t I?), euphonium, marimba and flute, I wanted to go with a warm, welcoming feel perfect for a nice witch like Matoya. Rather ironic considering this song was also used in the Ice Cavern… for some reason…
Obviously I haven’t given up doing remixes, and the Animated What-Ifs video I posted isn’t going to be a one-off. I plan on doing both for the foreseeable future, most likely alternating. I already have plans for AWI Episode 2, so that will likely come next.
