Hello. My name is Pipao (Japanese), the uncle who sold his company.
At the end of March 2022, at the age of 56, I sold my company for several hundred million yen and retired.
Now, I live on stock investments (dividends and distributions).
In October, the distribution was 1.46 million yen.
This time, I stayed in a suite (100 m2) with an open-air bath at Komatsukan Kofutei in Matsushima Onsen, where Matsushima is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. The accommodation cost was USD 633 per night with half board for two persons.
Matsushima is an archipelago or archipelago of about 260 islands in and around Matsushima Bay in north-eastern Miyagi Prefecture [1] (there are various theories about the number of islands. See below). The Matsushima Bay is also known as the Matsushima Hills, which surround the bay and are part of the Shukei area. It is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan [1], with approximately 5.98 million visitors in 2019 [2]. It used to be known as "Matsushima in the east and Zōgata in the west", along with Zōgata, another shūkei area that also existed in the Tohoku region.
The multi-island beauty of Matsushima, which is said to have attracted the famous haiku poets Matsuo Basho and Date Masamune 200 years ago, is now designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and Prefectural Natural Park of Japan. The colour contrast of the green pine trees floating in the blue sea will captivate the hearts of many.
Matsushima, which has been used as a song pillow since the Manyo period (7,000 years ago) and is one of Michinoku's representative scenic spots along with Miyajima and Amanohashidate, was described as one of Japan's three most scenic spots in around 1714 (Shotoku 4) by Hayashi Shunsai, the third son of Hayashi Razan, a Confucian scholar in the Edo shogunate, in his book 'Nihon koto jikko' ('Records of Japan'), who described it as 'one of the three most bizarre sights in Japan'.
The Four Great Views are famous places that offer a panoramic view of the 260-odd islands in Matsushima Bay. Each is called by a name that describes the impression of the view.
1. Spectacular view - Otakamori, elevation 105.8 m. 15-minute drive from JR Senseki Line Nobiru Station to the top of the mountain, 20-minute walk to the summit.
A high peak in the centre of Miyatojima, Higashi-Matsushima City, on the east side of Matsushima Bay, from the summit you can see the masculine Saga Creek and the feminine Matsushima Bay. It is said to be spectacular because the shape of Matsushima can be seen like a box garden.
2.Reikan, Tomiyama (116.8 m above sea level) 45-minute walk from Rikuzentomiyama Station on the JR Senseki Line.
Toyama Kannon, one of the three Kannon of Oshu, is located at Daigo-ji Temple on the summit of the mountain, which is covered with large cedar, pine and fir trees. From the temple's garden, a panoramic view of Matsushima can be enjoyed in the tranquil atmosphere. The view from the temple's garden offers a panoramic view in three directions to the east, south-west and west. There is a parking area for about five cars. From the car park it is a 16-minute staircase ride to the top.
3. great view, Tamonzan (Mt Tamon), altitude 55.6ⅿ, 15-minute walk from Tagajo Station on the JR Senseki Line to the top of the mountain, 10 minutes to the summit.
From the cliffs of Shichigahama, at the northern end of the town of Shichigahama, you can see the waves crashing and breaking from the Pacific Ocean, and the grandeur of the view has given it the name of 'Great View'. The islands of Matsushima form the backdrop to the view of the large and small boats coming in and out of Shiogama Harbour.
4. Ogidani, Ogikan (55.8 m altitude) A 5-minute drive from Matsushima-kaigan Station on the JR Senseki Line, and a 3-minute staircase ride to the summit.
The summit of Ogidani is located on the highland behind Soukanzan, and is called Ogidani because the inlet of Matsushima Bay appears to float like a fan from the top of the mountain. This is one of the points from which a panoramic view of Matsushima can be obtained. The ruins of the tea pavilion of the feudal lord at the top of the mountain are also located here, and the maples in the autumn foliage season add to the charm of the area for visitors. Please note that only a few cars can be parked here.
