Yes...absolutely agree! He so deserves a wider audience. And not just because he has worked so hard for years, but because he has a voice of clarity, power, tenderness and beauty.

mrjcb91 Never ever nervous about the singing part :) Let's see how fast he'll be able to get comfortable with "talking deep south american" and "dancing around like a plum" LOL One week of rehearsals to go. Yeah.

Can anybody here with some expertise tell me if those phenomenal last few notes were a chest drag or a chest dominant mix?

It's a high D so by there he's well into his head voice (3rd bridge) but because his cords are closed and he's pressing down on the air he's able to get the same volume and power as he would from his chest (just like Stevie Wonder, Jeff Buckley or if your stagey Oliver Tompsett and Ricardo Alfonso). Basically Matt has skillz lol.

Matthew Colthart Interesting :) Does the same explanation also apply to the high G he "belted" out when he did "Not over you" live? Like on "Matt Cardle Not Over You ITV Weekend" [ Ay_Nu1yCefQ ]?

***** that's also a head voice however it's a lot lighter. He's not "pressing in" as much there, which is why the sound is lighter (the physical evidence of it being lighter is the sound and the fact that his face remains a lot more neutral lol), as there's a lot less muscle and intensity. Belt technique is very different from a belt sound. You can achieve a belt sound (like Matt does) with closed cords and air pressure without adding extra chest. This removes excess weight and muscle from the voice allowing a much more relaxed approach to singing whilst still getting the punch you need. A good comparison is Adele and Jessie J. Both are belty singers, however where Adele uses a lot of excess chest, Jessie uses air pressure and cord closure. That's why Jessie's vocal range is better and why Adele has unfortunately ruined her voice twice (I'm not slating Adele by the way I love her stuff).
