I'm going to be honest. People work so so hard to achieve their PB's and work months even so years to shave off just a few minutes. Any intrusion like this in a path would eff up the whole pace, breathing and mental alertness towards maintaining it. A marathon is not a joke. If you want to make content you have to respect people's spaces and the line they run. A marathon should not allow such things in general race area. This ban is appropriate as the person has been doing this in other marathons.

He knew exactly what he was doing. No way did no one in his crew tell him it was a bad idea and his crew are all also to blame and should all get banned. You need to be pretty stupid not to realise it was bad idea from the beginning

I've come across his Tik Toks and YT vids from time-to-time, and I have to say up-front, I've never been a fan of Matt Choi. That said, I think he deserved to be banned. His actions were selfish. He made the race all about himself. As a result, he affected other runners on the course, some who may've been attempting a PR. I say this after experiencing something similar this weekend at the Golden Gate 5K. Two runners thought it would be fun to run with their dogs. The race started, I began my jog, one dog got overly excited as people cheered and started barking and jumping around, cutting into my path and others. I had to brake and hop over the dog and leash to avoid tripping. I shouted an obscenity in frustration, and the owner apologized. I avoided getting hurt, but i don't know about the people behind me. When it comes down to it: Runners just need to follow the rules. And, if there's no mention of it in the rule, then take a minute to think how your actions will affect other runners.

6:07 nah he’s not deserving of any props. he’s been getting the same criticism for ages. he’s only apologizing now and stating he was wrong because he’s getting actual consequences and losing brand deals. he’s known this behavior was wrong for years.

I agree 100% with everything you said and I get it why so many influencers are jumping on the bandwagon to give their thoughts on Matt Choi's debacle at the NYC Marathon. The thing is we know who Matt Choi is given his track record, but what amazes me is no one is talking about the failure and hypocrisy of the NYRR and NYC Marathon officials. They did absolutely nothing as they allowed Matt's crew to follow him on the course. The CEO of Runna even ran with him and should know better. I'm more disappointed with NYRR and NYC Marathon officials...

I consider his apology a declaration of his next project and that is betterment, nothing more. I give him no props, no nothing until his future actions prove his words. Until then he’s just another content creator goof with yet another apology video in his resume. I’ve seen it one too many times, it’s that same old influencer shtick of royally f’king up, apologizing and then offending in a different way down the line. attention and money are just too sweet of a drug and those folks got it bad.

He has several apology videos cause he keeps doing shady stuff. He doesn't care as long as it makes content he will continue to do it until he loses sponsors and gets banned from more races. He just isn't a good individual who will do anything for a buck as long as it means he doesn't have to go out and get a real job.

@1:39 - It's even worse. According to the NYT Choi had TWO cameramen on TWO ebikes riding the race course filming him! And this wasn't even his 1st ebike offense! Again, according to the NYT: "Mr. Choi also ran with e-bikes in tow in the Austin Marathon in Texas last year." apparently this violates World Athletic competition rules, and NYRR 'code of conduct rules, and NYRR 'rules of competition'. That's 3 strikes!

@@zacsakacsi don't u think it would make sense to do some research before making a video on someone else's drama? It feels like ure rushing to make a reaction video without knowing the full context. This just comes off like u're pushing content than making an authentic video. There's enough crap content in social media and that's part of the problem with "influencers" culture. Also Matt has pride himself as a content creator first and runner second. He stated this many times during interviews. It clearly shows where his head is at with his actions.

I never heard of Choi before this video Honestly ,I ran races as a bandit before when I was much younger and didn't have the money for the entry fees because I trained so hard to run a race but then couldn't get the money in time for entry fees But back then there were no video recording devices or E bikes on the market. My goal was to run tbe race legitimently the following years so I could see my name in the local newspaper along with tbe thousands of other runners to see how I placed. So I guess what Im saying is it depends in his intentions and if he promises to clean up and not do these things anymore give hin a chance to repay his debt of gratitude by volunteering to give out drinks or help with the course to repay his wrong doings. Maybe his channel could inspire many people to stsrt running and embrace a healthy lifestyle in this chaotic world that may become law abiding runners Lets turn a nagetive experience into a good one but if only if that is in his heart We all have the inharent potential of good or bad.Lets encourage each other to become our best He could become a advocate of safety and following a strict path and striving to make a difference..

As I watched his apology I genuinely think it came from a good place. He only apologised because he got called out and dqd etc BUT I feel he only realised how stupid it was after the DQ. The dq is right and just. A lifetime ban is pretty harsh in my opinion. We have elite level athletes serving small bans for drugs cheating. 🤷‍♂️

Everybody makes mistakes, that is life. He apologize and thats fine. But i think is all bs, if he really meant the apology he should delete the NY marathon videos, If not is all part of a show. I think in the people that got affected by him seeing his social and still look at the videos, what would they think. Some, if not the majority of influencers are narcisistic and selfish, they put just a front. Many people that supported him in the comments are content creators also. As a content creator myself i belive the right thing to do is get in touch personally with the people that got directly affected and delete the videos as a sign of solidarity, if not is just bologny. I repeat everybody makes mistakes and deserves second and third and.... chances but in this case seems its all pure bull. One time i saw a reel that a random runner in a marathon, apparently for no reason, put the middle finger sign on him, matt played the victim in the reel saying that all people need love , i defended matt, i did not have context, now i know it was not for no reason.

Good, he has cheated and done plenty of shady stuff in marathons and races before so more organizations need follow suit. He thinks the rules don't apply to him cause he wants to make content. He doesn't taking the races seriously at all and it shows. I stopped following him after the first time he did something dirty in the running community with taking someone else's bib who got injured and couldn't do the race anymore after they said you couldn't transfer the bib. All because he forgot to sign up for the race and still did it anyway cause he thinks rules do not apply to him.

Just another person who needs some attention in life. Where would fools like this be without the internet, hey? To genuinely influence people isn't a job, it's a way of life and an unselfish desire and pursuit to see people change for the better without the need for any recognition or reward.
