It wasn't the crews fault, if you knew anything about the disaster. It was an explosion, caused by faulty manufacturing.

Actually it was determined that a stunning breach of discipline, shoddy, obsolete and poorly maintained equipment, negligence, incompetence, and mismanagement all contributed. Vice-Admiral Valery Ryazantsev accused the Russian navy of failing to properly train the crew, who did not appear to have properly closed the inner torpedo room safety door, which was designed to protect the rest of the submarine. The original commission concluded that poor oversight, budget cuts, and incomplete maintenance inspections contributed to the explosion. Official reports conducted later fully concluded that the rescue operation was also unjustifiably delayed and that the Russian Navy was completely unprepared to respond to the disaster.

I personally am terrified of drowning so there-for I'd place not only an alarm system to detect breaches, but also I'd try to mass produce re-breathers for the entire crew. Maybe Navies need uniforms with light weight re-breathers incorporated within them like the water-pack for ground troops. Idea of the centuries right here. This could also be done in the future of course.

Matt has a lot of songs, check out album "Drinking Songs" first. ('The Kursk" is from there). But for similar i'd recommend some post-rock, post-punk bands, like: Mogwai(has vocals), Yndi Halda, Riding Alone For Thousand of Miles, The Monroe Transfer, The Ascent of Everest, GY!BE and A Silver Mt. Zion ofc. Last guys are compilation of guys from GY!BE with some vocals - definitely like Matt Eliott :). Have a nice trip
