Cymbals sound amazing. Tama kit sounds amazing. Just bought this Matt Garstka fat stack. Expensive as hell but worth it for me cause I use it for anything and everything, very versatile. Best stack ever. And Matt Garstka is the man. All that equals to a thumbs up video. Hope he reviews the Tama kit as wel.

These types of cymbals work incredibly well in heavily rhythm based music like Animals as Leaders. I use a similar setup for some very dark/blackened progressive metal, and MAN do they suit the music well :) The previous recording I made with my band was with heavier and brighter cymbals like the Zildjian A custom series, and their decay was waaay too long and bright for the music which removed the crispness from the grooves. Hope this makes sense :)
@oldchanel3956

quite obviously an outrageous drummer but why is it trendy to use quieter cymbals suited for jazz in metal and rock these days? seen them live and the cymbals legimitely sounded like a fart
@joedagostino7813
@joedagostino7813 7 жыл бұрын
Lagertits they serve their purpose, as they have a lot of sharpness and attack and dynamics, but with a fast decay. They're in then they're out. On the cd recordings you can hear, that if he used any brighter sounding cymbals they would drown out the guitars. The same for a live setting I feel as well.
@ttscott95
@ttscott95 7 жыл бұрын
Who knows man, maybe i just seen a show with a bad mix, i guess at the end of the day the work for him and thats what matters. You're right in a sense they are in and out which does suit because he is a very busy player but even in this vid they sound dull and lifeless. Each to their own eh :)
@fleagalisyourdaddy
@fleagalisyourdaddy 6 жыл бұрын
Lagertits From my experience Matt's cymbals have sounded superb live, although his ride and his Extra Dry China (before his signature china) are really quiet...
@leeschmitz993
@leeschmitz993 4 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, it's not a trend. Brighter cymbals didn't even exist until the late 60s or early 70s, when Paiste came out with their Giant Beat, 2002, and Rude series (Bonham, Moon, Appice, and McBrian popularized these cymbals) and drummers for your blues rock, roots rock, and southern rock bands still preferred the more subdued sound of the classic Zildjian cymbals. That said, the reason why Jazz cymbals are coming back in style is because a lot of rock music is once again becoming quieter, and blues/r&b driven. Heavier Rock music, and Metal is becoming much faster, and math oriented, so drummers are ditching the bright cymbals, and boomy sounding drums that Bonham popularized for dark/trashy cymbals, and the dead drum sound of the 70s. That's also why drummers like Gavin Harrison have started favoring Birch drums over Maple. The last time Birch was popular, Steve Gadd was touring with Simon & Garfunkel.

The point is to demonstrate the cymbals he uses, the way he uses them. If you want some boring 4/4 shit go to Memphis Drum Shop. Ben White has some for you.
@The_Kevinist
@The_Kevinist 7 жыл бұрын
Fourty 4Times You clearly don't know jack shit about rhythmic concepts and rhythm as a whole It's not for the sakes of playing faster or more technical than the other cat, rhythm is a dialect of music(which is a language subdivided into components such as rhythm, harmony and melody(literally the language of sounds and frequencies)) Kindly shut the fuck up if you clearly don't understand what's going on instead of spouting bullshit
