Finally someone wrote a song about this!! 14 years of ministry and most of it terrible. At times, we still talk about it. By the grace of God, we have healed and moved on to great things and still share our faith.

In 2017 I was deeply hurt by the church which left me struggling with depression, suicidal thoughts, images of me taking my own life, church anxiety, and most painful of all wondering if God had also rejected me. In 2020 towards the end of May as the images of me taking my own life grew more incessant and began to be accompanied by an ever increasing sence of urgency to follow through with what they were showing me I stopped pleading with God for Him to take away my depression and just told Him about it. I poured my heart out to Him that day, I told Him about being hurt by the church, the unwanted thoughts and images, and how much it hurt when I wondered if He had rejected me. He told me to sing the chorus of my song until it became my reality. On the first day I sang the chorus over and over again. On the second day I once again sang the chorus over and over again. On the third day when I woke up there was Jesus and He said to me "I love you". I sat bolt upright in my bed and said "Jesus loves me" instantly joy flooded my soul and my heart began to sing again. My depression gone Jesus has truly rescued and healed me, no more anguish and despair, no more suicidal thoughts and images of me taking my own life, no more church anxiety and no more wondering if God had also rejected me. Oh what a wonderful Savior and healer Jesus is!

I feel your pain. I have been living with Church hurt for 10 months now. After 5 months we decided to leave that Church. It was/is absolutely devastating. I miss my church. It's still VERY painful. I never knew Church hurt could be so painful. Until you go through it, people have NO idea just how life changing it is. I pray that people never experience it. Love one another 💜.

Wow…..just wow…this was great and speaks volumes to a current season I’m in where after being hurt by countless churches I want to just quit altogether. Not abandon the faith, but abandon the church. Great reminder there at the end.

i just heard this song today and I could not believe what i was hearing.I just spent the last few months walking through a season of incredible loss and pain leaving the only place that felt like home and family, the only church I ever wanted to be at and i somehow thought it would last. thankyou Matt for this song...trying to put into words this pain is so hard...i will always miss what was but hopefully the hurt will heal. This hits me hard. Two years ago I met such a wonderful woman, we talked for a year as friends, we became best friends and then we started officially dating. After sometime we started to see the flaws and imperfections in one another through our disputes. I was always willing to forgive her and work on our issues, but over time she lost patience and started to change and withdraw. I started to see a cold side of her. Many time of often ask how a woman of God, who knows the principles of church ,would change and be this way. Things were said and damage was done, all this did was leave us broken.

I won't lie, I'm very curious as to whether or not this is inspired at all by Clayton Jenning's poem called Church Hurt or just a coincidence. Either way it's a really good song! And if it isn't, i recommend watching Clayton's Church Hurt, as it's a very good poem ❤
