Matt, using your deafness as a reason not being able to work is such a cop out!! You just played Big Brother, a House of Whispers, and did really well in a Hearing environment. So many Deaf people, who struggle more with communicating with the Hearing, have jobs and careers. If they can do it, YOU can do it!

This!!! My impression is that his self identify around his disability has been shaped by the way his parents raised him. They were speech focused, and cut him off from the deaf world by never teaching him sign. He seems to have this impression that he can’t be independent, never having a job and never having a bank account. His identify, from my perspective, is “I’m deaf so I just swim” and that’s so disappointing and sad. He is clearly so so capable and has overcome so much and worked so hard, the deaf community deserves and advocate not a limiter.

I agree so much! his parents have greatly limited him, he has so many options for possible careers other than swimming, and like the other commenter said, many deaf people struggle even more with hearing.

Yeah, odd. I work for a telecommunications company. One of our Product dev leads that I worked with was deaf. There are all kinds of accommodations that corporations make.

I took it more as his personal experience with his own deafness and his own difficulties with communication and him sharing his fears of working in the real world when swimming is done. I think he acknowledged that communication can be difficult for deaf people and it's a concern for himself entering the work world.

Matt said on another interview Reilly was his girlfriend now. In the house Matt talked about two women he was dating and which one he should date after the Show. Great way to ask the question so Matt can’t wiggle out of the truth about America.. First time he apologized. But he’s still lying he did mean ill intent. Jag even talked to him about how much he hated America. But at least you got him to apologize. But if he apologized to America on Thursday this is the first time he’s said that in any interview or admitted he did anything wrong.. Is it true??? The way he & BJ berated Felicia everyday after she left was appalling. She was out of the game. Matt is not who he pretends to be. Matt uses sympathy to avoid taking accountability for his actions. They all are mentally adjusting to life. Jag apologized about his treatment of Felicia. Jared apologized for things he said in the house. Matt is a 27 yr old Olympian. His game wasn’t stressful. Jag had the stressful game. Matt laid around the house eating Felicia’s great cooking. That’s why he gained 30lbs.Je had the Have Not room to decompress & have private one on ones whenever he wanted. Matt has a lot of growing up to do.

I won't agree that his game wasn't stressful (it was for all of the HGs in some ways), but yes to the rest. Matt being deaf does not make Matt less able to understand being hurtful or hateful, nor does it impede his ability to take full accountability for his actions. It's taken him a full week to eke out the bare minimum of an apology for how he spoke about America, and that doesn't even touch on how he spoke about several of the women in the house in stereotypical ways (including Cirie and Felicia, his #1 supporters). I'm not sure if that is more of a reflection on his conscience or if Matt has become more conscious of how dodging the Qs might hurt his image, but I guess it's a start.

TLDR: He basically admitted he wasn't going to try for the olympic team in hungary (it was reported while he was in the house his times weren't good enough for the US team and probably not even for Hungary either. ) He says he apologized to America on Thursday. Clearly hasn't refined his talking points on his misogyny and is not using Lori or another of the leech pr people who usually glom on to the problematic contestants like him. Also sounds like Kat was hinting he's camped out at Todrick's landlord's place with Kyland.

He was unwilling to own his game (or perhaps didn't fully understand it at the time), and by his own admission he didn't put much thought or effort into preparing for the Finale/Final2 Qs and speech. Those are the minimum requirements for entering the winner's circle, and he didn't meet them.
