Talking up TV as though he's one of the best managers ever... 🤦 For a guy who won one league and a couple of domestic things at Barca and one FA cup with Spurs in 30 years of managing, I'm not sure how he rates that high. People remember Euro 96 with rose tinted nostalgia like in 1990 but we were woeful in the first game, lucky against Scotland and that Dutch team were way off. They only qualified via the play offs. They were literally no better than the German team we beat under Southgate at Euro 2021. They were out of form and were lucky to be there. Then in the Spain game they had a goal disallowed that VAR would give today. Other than that, we didn't create much. Then we lost to Germany on penalties. Regardless of how you cut it, Venables is remembered very favourably but not accurately. His players loved him and speak highly of him still... But so do Southgate's.

We had the youngest, fittest, and had the most pace. We should have gone at them with everything and won it in the 90 minutes by a few goals. He is clueless. Southgate is quite cautious. That is made clear with his permanent use of the 4-2-3-1 . Draws in the knock out rounds only lead to a penalty gamble and it's a shame he is not taking Grealish as his wild card. He has had very (very) good England squads and won nothing. Just because someone played the game at a professional level, assumptions are made that ex players can analyse the game at a deeper level than those who haven't. This is one of the biggest fallacies that people make, especially in England of all places. No Ex-England international player has gone on to become an elite coach in my lifetime, not a single one. Similarly across all comparable european footballing nations, England has the lowest number of professionally (UEFA) qualified coaches. Therefore it shouldnt surprise anyone, the culture is so degenerate with opinions like yours, that its assumed if someone were an ex player, its not necessary to study and acquire a professional footballing education.
