"I did too much living and I'm dying again." Oh Matt, you've hit yet another homerun. Your music is breaking me down and then building me right back up. Your lyrics are a poetic memoir that reminds us of where we're going and where we've been. And those transitional notes at the end, tying the song to Nelsonwood Lane? Holy crap. I am so grateful for your music and so grateful for you.

Hey Matt, even though I know this will get lost in the barrage of messages you're getting after releasing BRR, I just want to say your music has helped me through some seriously difficult times. Two major heartbreaks, a brush with borderline alcoholism at 16, a parent who left me behind, and dozens of other problems I won't go into but nonetheless had their blows softened by your music. You're an inspiration to a whole generation of people with troubled pasts. Thank you for being truthful, for easing up the hurt of being human. I like to think the purpose behind BRR is one everyone shares; the unrelenting ups and downs of mortality. Though we have our glorious moments, the ones where we could die happily, there is always one misstep waiting to take us over the deep end, into the murky waters. Even in the times we feel we could die happily, die miserably, die peacefully or violently, still we all bleed the same, we all have a place or person we call home, and we have to remember that.

Been a rough go physically the past couple of years and I was hoping for good or definitive answers at the neurosurgeon yesterday. That didn't happen. More testing, more referrals, more waiting. I'm 51. Got sober in 2009 and I slipped twice 2 months before my 11 years of sobriety. But I stopped and looked at the good life I have because of sobriety, and said NOPE, not giving this up for alcohol. After my appt yesterday I took my cameras out for an hour and when I got home was in so much pain, I felt like giving up, after 2 years sober again. I just cried myself to sleep. Woke up to a msg from my son linking another video, but this was right on my front page. I'm so grateful for it. I won't pick up today. Thanks Matt Maeson and the comments I read under the video that helped me remember that a drink or drug isn't going to make my life better. Much love.

Here wishing for insight into the art Matt chooses to share with the world. This song has reason. The video has purpose. What does it mean to him? My initial opinions / thoughts: A song about the human condition. Most specifically, the ups and downs of life. You can do too much loving and end up dying again. You can recognize yourself in the mirror when you’re living. You can recognize yourself changing as you start to slide. You can barely recognize the distorted version of yourself when you’re at the bottom. You can always take action to recognize yourself again.

Being able to look at yourself in the mirror and realizing what you used to be and are becoming is such a pivotal point in a persons life, and I feel like this embodies that feeling.

I'll be honest I watched the entire thing and the music industry has always fascinated me because of how it really works and how involved songwriters are, etc.. I was impressed I enjoyed it and I'm happy for the success you're having.. Of course once I watch it, I have to look you up and find out what's going on and where you're from, how you started, the influence of your music.. no matter what I think. The fact of the matter is it is real very real and personal and I think that's important and music is absolutely losing that aspect. Congratulations
