I have been a loyal Matt Nathanson fan since the start, and as he has changed, so have I. If you truly admire an artist then you should be able to respect and appreciate their evolution as an artist. He is still as amazing as he always has been.

As a fan of mainly just his new stuff, I can see where you're coming from. I find his old stuff weird / not my style, but love the new stuff. Not saying you have a poor taste in music, just different than I do. Which in turn does make it make sense you'd like his old stuff while i don't.

Musicians' styles change and they experiment and try new things. He doesn't work for you, and like any artist, he is free to do what he wants to. Personally, I feel that Some Mad Hope was his first full-blown professional, good album, and I loved Modern Love (a little more than his current album, though I think Mission Bells is pretty great). Even if he's losing some of his early audience, he's gaining a lot of new audience.

I'm a big Kid Cudi fan and when he changed his style of music. You got to understand that if artists don't change then they don't progress and if they don't progress then they don't evolve. If you don't evolve you stay the same and thats not good. Support your artist in any projects that they do. They're still the same artist that wrote some of your favorite songs!!

I consider myself part of that category (liking the old and the new); my favorite albums of his are Still Waiting For Spring and Modern Love. I prefer his vocals in the older albums, and his newer stuff I just like, so there's something about both. But I do get what you are saying, and I can agree with you in terms of other artists (Norah Jones comes to mind for me, where her older stuff sounds a bit more jazzy and soul-y? compared to her last couple of pop albums). You have very good points.

Most people started liking him after they heard a song on the radio, in a TV show or in a movie. I'm not trying to sound hipster here, but I've been following him since his first CD. If it weren't for fans like me, who supported his earlier work, he never would have gotten on the radio, or in movies. He can try new stuff, and that's what he did with his last CD. But now he needs to get back to how he was. He's obviously just selling-out now.

Yeah, it definitely would appeal to different people. I don't think very many people would be into both styles (his old and new). His old stuff is more folk, while this new stuff is more pop. If this was his second CD, and it was different from the first one, I wouldn't be that mad, because I'd only be invested in one CD. But this is his 10th. So, I've been a fan for 8 CDs, then all of a sudden this past 2 have been completely different.

Why aren't artists allowed to experiment with new sounds? It's not abandoning the fans to try something different just because you don't like it. I've been a fan of Matt's for years and years. I think is earlier music is his strongest. I didn't like Some Mad Hope, but I thought Modern Love was okay and the new album's pretty good. That's the way it goes sometimes - fans don't like everything an artists puts out. I plan to continue supporting him!

This song is so much better in acoustic, but the studio version is good too
