I have been a college football fan since the late 60's when my grandfather took me to the north endzone of memorial stadium to watch the huskers. Additionally, I am a Matt Ruhle and Pat McAfee and crew fan. I have always thought the best way to handle paying players is to include the university. Have the law college make contracts, have the accounting and finance departments review payments and set up investments for long term growth of a portion of their compensation. finally, have the business department negotiate the players first contract if they make it to the nfl. Now, the agents at every level would not like this as the athletes would retain the millions of dollars the agents are now receiving. This structure would not only benefit the student athletes, but regular students who are taking the classes that teach every aspect of the business of college and professional sports.

This is a totally fair and valid criticism for NIL, but I just hope people realize not paying players is also not the perfect alternative or solution. These guys are what are actually driving in most of the revenue for the sport. And you’ve got everyone else other than the players making 6-8 figures so it only makes sense the players should receive a portion of that. The real problem is there absolutely needs to be plenty of rules and limitations put in place. What should all of those rules be? I don’t know, but I’m not the one getting paid the big bucks to figure it out. The ones with the power to do that should go out there and earn what they’re getting paid.

im pretty sure thats a good thing tho. these college athletes are humans, they should be given the freedom to make choices about where they play and go to school. i do not like the idea that a player is punished for wanting to transfer to a team with a better situation for them. these kids are 17 or 18 when they commit to a college, its ridiculous to expect them to want to stay at one school for the next 3 to 4 years
