There's thousands of people with autism and other social issues who date dolls and the doctors don't think it's a big deal because these people at the end of they are aware that's not an actual person even if they treated such. there are a few documentaries on guys who have dolls as their girlfriends, and it is not a mental illness as most of you are saying...I am sure there is a good reason why he feels he can only trust the doll maybe it's because he has dealt with people who had hurt him deeply and broken his trust to the point where you have not so many to look for support or understand were your coming from and have to cut ties with. So the whole time the main character of the story is worried his friend is not talking to him because he's potentially dating an ex-girlfriend of his. Then at the end instead of being relieved like his friend is actually just severely autistic and was too embarrassed to admit he's dating a doll he just ends the friendship with him. Why would you do that? If I found out that one of my friends was feeling so hurt by people or just so walking around people that they had to date a doll I would stay friends with them. Ending of friendship over something like this is so silly.
