We began the Nichols Gorge walk from Blue Waterholes Campground in Long Plain (Kosciuszko National Park). Our first stop was Cooleman Cave where you can venture in to the cave and explore it however you like. I got too claustrophobic and waited out the front as Matt entered the cave by himself. All alone with just a head torch, he explored part of the cave system and was gone for nearly half an hour!
Continuing on our hike, we eventually came across Murray Cave which is a much larger cave. It opens up into a massive cave from which you can then take a left turn and explore a 200m passage. Once again, I freaked out and waited as Matt ventured all the way to the end of the cave alone.
Afterwards we continued to complete the full circuit of Nichols Gorge. We walked through the plains and spotted lots of brumbies, the most we had seen during our whole time in Kosciuszko National Park.
Our next stop was Landers Creek Falls and Talbingo Reservoir Lookout which was a 1.8km return hike from the car park (4WD only). We also quickly pulled in at Black Perry Lookout for a glance at the incredible view.
Then we drove to Tumut 3 Power Station to see another big part of the Snowy Hydro Scheme. It was incredible to see the sheer size of the plant and the massive pipes that bring the water down the mountains.
We also stopped in at the Talbingo Dam wall to put into perspective the size of the whole scheme and how much water these reservoirs hold.
Our campsite for the night was Log Bridge Creek where we found a nice little spot tucked away in the corner. We used ALL our leftover food scraps as we were starting to run quite low on groceries. It's all part of the experience and we love camping.

I don’t blame ya for wanting to go in… love the choice of words! 🤬🤬 Heading there myself soon, hope I’ll get the courage to walk in and check them out. 👍🏼

Your video brought back a lot of memories. I first visited the Blue Water Hole in 1961 - and many times since. It's good to see "Nichol's Gorge", which dates back to the 19th century instead of "Nicole". You'll find a slide show of mine by doing a search on "Cooleman Caves". I'm the dude in the one with all the stalactites in Murray Cave. John

Would a 7kg backpack be enough for a 12 days hiking trip? I can't carry more than that and I want enough food to survive it

I wouldn't think so! You wouldn't have enough space to pack any spare clothing and 12 days worth of food...
