Having tuned snare drums from marching to drum set, I have found that it's quite difficult to get the pitch equal around the snare beds, which is natural. If the pitch is off slightly at the snare beds, it really isn't an issue. On drum set snares in particular, if the tension and/or pitch is lower at the snare beds, this can help prevent sympathetic vibrations.

wut is the thing under the top head.My snare resonates too much.I've tried all the tunings and i have a control screen but it doesn't help much.Im just now seeing most snares have that thing under the head so im thinking it could be that that dampens resonance.Can someone plz tell me wat its called?

Emilio Sanchez-Harris the thing that is under the top head is a snare mechanism, makes the drum have a crisper sound

Da'juan Variste so the tension rods don't get 'stuck'

It makes it easier to adjust the tension rods at high tension

Lubricant keeps the threads on the tension rods and lug nuts from stripping out under high tension and corroding due to weather, dirt and time . It also makes them easier to turn, as they can feel quite stiff with so much tension on them.

My snare drum has a really bad ring to it, any tips on how to get rid of it?
@sideoutside6 жыл бұрын
Put duct tape on it, or use a small window cling (aka moongel)

Tune it better.

Make sure the pitch at each lug zone is the same. I like to use a drum tuning app. Try to get each zone within at most 2 Hz of each other.

Maybe they should learn the difference between a drum head and iron pipe wrench! I played drums in school and I've been playing drums for 60 years . I have NEVER broken a resonant head, but them I treat drums like they are a musical instrument!
